It's not actually a bad pitch IMO. Certainly better than the first test

A fair bit more variable bounce than I expected on first look but there's also no way India can blame the wicket for their rubbish performance....they've scored 500+ on worse

Really? 500 on worse pitches?

I respect your knowledge of cricket but I saw 2 balls in one over from O'Keeffe. One rolled along the ground. The other was above shoulder height to the keeper.

That shouldn't happen on day 1.

Yeah it's pretty dry and a bit variable but honestly I don't reckon it's really a bad wicket....yet. It'll be woeful in a few days if the sun opens the cracks up but India have made their empire on wickets like this. Patient batting for two days or even a little more, score 500 and win by an innings. They were not patient today and they paid for it. It wasn't even spinning that much, and the India bowlers didn't really threaten Renshaw and Warner with any major variable bounce. One ball to Renshaw hit a crack and stayed low.

Compared to a wicket they played on against South Africa last year (I think) and scored 300 or 400 this is a cakewalk. I think the pitches for the 2nd and 3rd tests against England were as bad or worse (definitely worse at Vizag, England had six hundred blokes out LBW to the variable bounce) and they got 400+ in both.

Fair enough.

However, I ask you as a cricket fan, should the ball be hitting cracks and not bouncing, with many balls not even reaching the keeper on day 1.

I personally think not.

To me, this almost looks worse than the first test. Variable bounce is the worst.

In an ideal world, probably not. But in an ideal world I do think there should be something in the pitch for the bowlers...swing, seam, nasty bounce, whatever. Swing and seam are mostly out in India so I'm not all that upset to at least see something that helps the bowlers. Too many roads in test cricket these days.

I agree but on day 1.

This match won't last 5 days like the last test.

Should we just bring in 4 day tests, like Mark Taylor has stated.

Yeh. A few balls that directly hit a crack took off, but they were largely on a length that didn't cause too many problems.

So, all you chaps who laughed at me last week when I suggested that Lyon will be the bigger attacking threat (of our two spinners) in the following tests, and accused me of not watching the game and relying on stats....anything to say?

yeah, about f**king time he earned his pay check, over 4 years since he's taken a Michelle, and secondly, its only the fist innings of the second test and so far SOK is the leading wicket taker

jokes aside, he did bowl well and credit where its due, whom ever bowled from his end would have cleaned up as there is a dry patch there but it he exploit it perfectly, its good to see him finally bowling with some variation

most players learn their trade at grade or first class level, he learned his at international level because we have persevered with him for soooo many years while he was bog average and he has finally learned the value of variation

Lyon and SOK are equal mate. SOK has 6, 6, and 1....Lyon has 1, 4, and 8
