2016 Crowd Watch

Cowboys have played 14 games in Wollongong for an average of 9963.

Gong crowds are never good, Cowboys in particular are not a good draw card.

Any bump you could expect from them being defending premiers is cancelled out by origin stars missing from both teams.

The crowd will be in the 8500 - 10500 range. I've just saved you guys all that energy from getting worked out about it being a shit crowd...it will be shit...suspense over. Moving along.

Yep. Really just hoping it manages to crack 10k though expecting about 9k.

My mates at the game and is usually a pretty good predictor @ WIN.

Reckons 10,648.

Based on tele I reckon the high 9s but he says the west is relatively full compared to similar hill turnouts.

We'll see

10400 at the Brumbies tonight.

Good chance for the Raiders to make a crowd statement tomorrow

They're in the 8
They've got the better (warmer) timeslot
They've got the better opponent (Dogs are a big drawer in CBR, compared to Japanese Rugby)

Would be great to see 15k tomorrow

Great opportunity for Canberra, should be decent weather too.
Wollongon was a solid pass.

Poor bastards in Wollongong.

Watched 10 minutes of that game, saw one pass running for 5 tackles and a bomb for about 5 sets in a row. And this is dry conditions.

ESL is so much more entertaining football to watch than the NRL at present. Even in French Elite 1 you see more action.

wollongong u officially suck...

if knights can get 17k for a team running last, surely you can fill that shit hole you call WIN stadium,

Even though WIN doesnt have RL anymore...

Newcastle and the GONG are bascially the same demography wise....

With only four games being played this weekend, you'd think that there would be more of a promotional push to get fans to actually go to the games. I guess there's not. 10k is poor. Yes, it was a freezing night. Yes, there was no key players playing for the Cowboys. But that's not good enough. Games at the Gong on a Fri, Sat and Sun should get 15k+. Thurs and Mon can be acceptable with a 10k. We only play four games a year down there. You'd think that there would be more of a passion to go to the ground, with the reduced rollout.

Perhaps the reduced number of games is the issue. People just don't get in to the habit of going regular.

Care to elaborate. These two are frequently discussed as having a similar economic history but vastly different demography.

As for population.
Wollongong - 290,000
Newcastle - 435,000

Agree in general though. Should be getting better crowds. Dragons need to start taking the region more seriously.

NRL THINKS BIG

IN a bid to whip up a Blues frenzy, the NRL will run its biggest pre-game entertainment program. The lights will be turned off and a giant 35m ball will be rolled out to the centre of the ground and used as a movie screen for a nine-minute video on the history of Origin.

MORE THAN 80,000 TO CHEER ON NSW

SUCH is the anticipated late rush for tickets, management of ANZ Stadium has added an extra 1000 seats for Wednesday night’s blockbuster.

The NRL and the stadium are now predicting a crowd of more than 80,000, further emphasising that building a new 55,000-seat major-event stadium in Moore Park was a dumb idea.

Despite the fact the Maroons have won nine of the past 10 Origin series, the Blues are a different proposition when they are playing in front of their fanatical Sydney fans.

The Blues have a 4-2 advantage over the Maroons at ANZ Stadium over the past five years.

When game one has been played at ANZ Stadium, the Blues have won six from eight, and they only lost game one of last year’s series by a single point.

Interesting... Can still get 20 tickets in a row in each category other than gold on the lower bowl...

Category: Diamond
Section: 108-1
Row: 19
Seat/s: 36-55

Category: Platinum
Section: 102-2
Row: 46
Seat/s: 49-68

Category: Silver
Section: 143-2
Row: 46
Seat/s: 9-28

Category: Bronze
Section: 138-21
Row: 44
Seat/s: 47-66

Nonetheless, I am sure 75,000 - 80,000 will show.

"Braving the cold weather", lol. All relative I suppose.

Around 3% of regions population turned out.

more 4.5% if you're not pessimistic.

Compare that to .004% of GWS's populus who turned out last sunday. (probably half of that if you aren't counting feet like the AFL do :p.

Such a ridiculous way of looking at it.

When the New York Giants get 82,000 at MetLife, it's less than 1% of the city's population.

Wollongong is 3 X better than Nea York

Here's a better example.

West Coast Eagles average 2016 - 1.75%
Fremantle Dockers average 2016 - 1.5%
Perth Glory average 2015/2016 - 0.5%
Perth WildCats average 2015/2016 - 0.7%
Western Force - 0.7%

If 3% is inadequate, I withdraw my support for a Perth NRL side.
