Yep, our reward for finishing second was playing the Broncos at Lang Park.

I could be wrong but think they had already set the scheduling for grounds well before the regular season finished.

Week 1 was Friday night semi at Parra, Saturday afternoon semi at SFS, Sat night semi at Brisbane and Sunday semi at SFS.

Then the rest of the games at SFS.

It was just a coincidence that Broncos played at Brisbane in both 95 and 96.

Yeah Broncos lost both those games so it didn't really help them.

Also I remember 1998 they made a scheduling for two preliminary finals in separate cities.

Originally ANZ and SFS were scheduled for the two games, even though it happened anyway, the match between Parramatta/Canterbury was originally supposed to be played at ANZ but they swapped it because the other game was Brisbane/Roosters.

They obviously didn't predict Brisbane losing to Parra two weeks earlier and the Roosters beating Newcastle and Melbourne.

This current scheduling is better.

How have they been lowered? Because we aren't playing games in your beloved hometown?

Maybe if a Sydney team performed at a level that justified their media attention you'd get more games at your hideous stadium.
Huh?

There's a finals game in my hometown on Saturday night m8

That doesn't explain your original statement about them being lowered. Just curious what you meant.

m8.
Finals used to be given a bit of prestige because they were at a centralised venue. I miss seeing footy every week at Allianz in September. It was a sense of occasion. The 'Home City' criteria has fixed this a bit in Sydney but generally seeing footy at the same venues it's played during the 26 rounds is underwhelming.

JMO and not many would probably agree, but I don't particularly like the idea of home finals.

disappointing that the broncos crowd on friday night might be the highest crowd of the final series after the grand final

Why? If Cronulla or Canberra host a prelim chances are it'll be at ANZ, no?

Because I object to the word "host"?

I can cop having to play a prelim in Sydney but if we came up against the Sharks, Bulldogs or Penrith there it would hardly be hosting now would it?
imagine if these sydneycentric tools finished higher then us but we got to ... host... the prelim down here

the whining would be heard on Jupiter lol

That doesn't make any sense though - you don't have a ground capable of it.

Which is the entire point.

How did you guys cope in 89...when you had to play all finals matches at SFS? Or any year you played in the finals for that matter

It was a Sydney comp back then so that was fair enough. Hasn't been the case for a long time.

TBH I could cop playing in Sydney better if the Prelims were day games like they were back in the 80s/90s. The 6 hour round trip at night just doesn't work for a lot of people.

Canberra have played 24 Finals matches at the SFS since 1988. The lowest crowd they played in front of was 16,441 v Roosters in 2000. More often than not between 1989 and 1995, those crowds exceeded 30k.
