Decent crowd for Canberra given our recent form. I don't get the scheduling though, now we have to wait 5 weeks for our next home game.

Seems poorly thought out to have no rugby league whatsoever in Canberra for a full 5 weeks.

I think the canberra A-grade sides would take issue with that statement. Everyone get out and support their local sides!

TVille desperately needs a new stadium in the cbd once that happens you will get a shit load more ppl to the game. Atm it's a outdated stadium 20min outside the cbd.

but don't cowboys fans travel for four hours and more just to get to the game....wtf is an extra twenty minutes. Apart from versing broncos at home, how much more could cowboys fans have wanted to get out to the game.... if thats as good as it gets that will probably be the high point of the home season apart from next home game against broncs...are cowboy tickets over the top, or on par with other venues?? I can't think of much else that kept last night under 20k

I do travel 4 hours from Mackay. I plan a trip with mates when there keen. We stay in the city hotel or casino like a trip away for the weekend. The problem is most ppl who go to the game like to drink alcohol that means public transport which is either a very expansive taxi or a bus. So that's 25-40 min each way depending on the traffic. All to watch the game at a outdated stadium with expansive beer, food & drinks.
Use to do it up 4 timesa year but have lost interest due to these things now I'm lucky to do it once a year. Brand new stadium in the cbd is something new, no doubt better watching conditions, a lot less travel and would attract apt more fans I myself would definitely try to go more often.

If Broncs games were held at Ballymore I would think twice about going out to a dilapidated shithole.

Would like to think there'll be at least 20k at Hunter, coupled with hopefully 30-35k at Allianz and 25k at AAMI. Should finish the round with a solid enough average.

Well that's a good thing. Thought you were a bit on the optimistic side.

Wait... Are you seriously posting crowd updates as they come in compared to your own per-game estimates?

We will outnumber dragons as usual at this game. 35-40k in fine weather would be closer to the mark imo

The Swans are a bigger brand than any of the Sydney NRL teams and sadly the biggest club football team in Sydney. I don't see that changing any time soon because for some reason they are always a top 4 type of a team on the field.
It would be interesting to see how they went with 3 or 4 years of on field failure, but I don't think the AFL would allow that and they are more than capable of manipulating things for the greater good of the code (which the NRL seem incapable of).
I think GWS will soon attract bigger crowds than the Sydney NRL teams (as they are coming in to a big period of success).
The AFL are just smarter operators in every area and its been that way for decades. I cannot watch AFL but I can acknowledge the facts in that regard.

The Swans TV ratings in Sydney are still lower than any NRL side aren't they? It all about perception with that code. The Swans get massive leg ups from the AFL, are always competitive and the media pretends there is a lot of interest in them but go out on the street in most areas and hardly anyone in Sydney cares about them.

I agree . I think they're probably a fair way down that list. As far as brand size (and how it relates to Sydney so South Melbourne excluded of course). I know it's kinda subjective but I'd say Sydney clubs look something like this.

1. Parra
1. Souths
1. Dogs
1. Saints
5. Swans
6. Manly
7. Sydney FC
8. WSW
9. Easts
10. Penrith
10. Waratahs
10. Cronulla
Stone, motherless last. GWS

I would agree with that list if it was just Sydney, but each of these teams play in national competitions. It is their national recognition that determines how big they are. Swans are sponsored by a brand I recognise QBE. NRL teams are sponsored by brands I have rarely heard of. Like Parra - Dyldam (who the hell is that?).
AFL kills NRL for sponsorship dollars and crowds. Even in Sydney.
I know saying this makes me sound like an AFL fan. But that is not the case, I just want to see the NRL lift its game - before it is too late.

2 Dogs
3 Soufs
4 saints
5 Swans
6 Sydney FC
7 Wanderers
8 Roosters
9 wests
10 Sharks
11 manly
12 Tahs
13 penriff
14 Warriors
15 Newtown jets
16 mt druitt under nines
17-24 nsw cup teams
25 GWS
