I was there and it set the new ground record, over 33,000, looking at tonight's game there's a few spare seats but should be close to 30k just depends on how many vacant seats in the upper Andrew Johns stand.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a competitive Newcastle team and be getting those sort of crowds regularly.

Unfortunately can't happen under the current NRL cap structure. Watch us go down to 15k or less as we keep getting flogged.

Wide shots showed the back of the open corners were almost completely empty. 27k in a 32k venue looks about right. Hill wasn't sardines by any stretch.

yeah 28K looked right
the stand behind the cameras top deck had plenty of empty seats too

good crowd though
like I said , would have had a 3 in front of the crowd figure if we were playing the game on Sunday instead of that useless city country game ..

Does seem odd that we have the pinnacle of the game opening the rep round insteaf of closing it, but thats the demands of tv i guess.

Can someone refresh memory. What was the outcome for the rep round im the tv contracts? Do the trans tasman matches stop mod season next year and do the pacific tests continue?

Good crowd and good decision to play it at that stadium. Perth will probably sell out in October so two good crowds for effectively friendly tests. Would have been Nice to have had last nights game on Sunday afternoon.
City v country Friday night
PI tests Saurday
Tasman test Sunday

They've been saying they aren't included in new tv deal but I guess that gives NRL to sell them separately? Surprised they didn't bundle them with SOO rights but seems SOO wasn't sold separately either.

There is about 50 people in the western grandstand. I'm on the Eastern grandstand and it's pretty full as are the ends. Some supporters may only come for one game. So the crowd might end up about 12k once all the Tongans and Samoans are in.
