Yeah 50k empty seats is great

The clubs in Sydney will go nowhere on crowds of 14&15k. Perfect day in Sydney 4 Sydney teams playing each in best time slots of the week on sunny afternoons and that is the best we could have hoped for. Anz isnt the answer for most games but neither is 11-15k at suburban grounds.

So your ok with 50-60 empty seats week in week out..

The ideal ground that we should only build for Rugby League is Ammi park in Melbourne.

It's not too big or too small 30k capacity and still looks ok when it's half full.

You make $4 of profit with a 15K crowd at a suburban ground , and will never attract corporate support of any note

You'll make 250K$ profit with a 30K crowd & with first class corporate facilities , backing throughout the season
As a code we need to work to the latter situation , & forget the former as it's a path to nowhere

Of course dummy

The MCG has that many empty seats most games for the AFL
It still has a great atmosphere & a great game day experience

The New ANZ as a proper rectangle venue with a roof , with 25 to 35K in it on a Sunday arvo will provide an enjoyable experience & $$$$ for the clubs playing at it

Get your mind out of the 1970s & let the amateur crap Sydney has provided for far too long for our game .. go!!

Exactly. And the plans for the new anz has 3 modes depending on expected crowd size so we won't see the upper tiers of empty seats due to LED lighting and screens.

Parra's genius plan to get around 6pm kick-off drama

Updated at 2:16 a.m. ET

We can all agree that the Friday 6pm NRL kick-off is awful for fans who actually want to attend footy matches.

For many it's simply impossible to get to any stadium - especially in Sydney - in time for kick-off after finishing work for the week.

The Bunnies-Dragons game at the SCG last Friday proved that. The crowd was embarrassing.

So, the Eels have taken ingenious route of attempting to get their fans permission to leave work early.

With a Friday evening game against the Knights, the Eels published a letter from coach Brad Arthur asking bosses around Sydney to let their Parra supporting employees leave work early.

"To whom it may concern: Please allow passionate Parramatta Eels supporters to leave work early on Friday, August 11," the letter read.

"It’s the tail end of our 70th season and we need our fans at ANZ Stadium for the 6pm kick off to help bring our Blue & Gold home.

"Thank you for your understanding.

"Sincerely, Brad Arthur."

"Genius plan"?

This has been done by about 1000 different clubs around the world from multiple codes (including the NRL) in the last 5 years. Hardly breaking new ground.

If it happens, the giants want to make sure they can play there.

The AFL shouldn't get a look in here, and to make sure of it the NRL should be getting together with the ARU and FFA on this one. Simply stated, if you don't turn ANZ into a proper Rectangular stadium you will lose all NRL games, SOO, Grand Final plus Bledisloe Cup, Socceroos games, Wanderers v Sydney FC derbies but hey, you'll have 30K there once a year to watch Giants v Swans.

it won't happen anyway, it's just shepherd, as both chairman of GWS & SCG Trust, trying to get them to spend less on ANZ so there's more to be directed to Allianz.

you can bet they'll upgrade Spotless to 35k even though they never sell it out now and it's only 5 years old

If anyone needed proof about the effect of poor scheduling and live against the gate ,last weekend was a classic.
6pm Friday was a crowd disaster.
The Sunday arvo games played in virtually packed out stadiums.
I emailed Rothfield on Friday night about the crap crowd on Friday 6pm,letting him know the News controlled 6pm schedule was hopeless.
Not response from him, but guess what on Sunday he admits the 6pm scheduling was crap with Dragons v Souths and blames the NRL.My understanding is Foxsports wanted the 6 pm slot, because they lost the Monday slot.Talk about deflection.
