What I dont understand is why are the games are still shown on GEM into non traditional RL states.

Take last night for an example.
AFL had 2 Vic sides 95k at the MCG, but the game was a bit meh, a blow out by 50 points. I wouldn't call it a great game of AFL.

The NRL gets 21k but wow what a cracking game. End to end, came down to almost jimmy the jet scoring on the final play.

Say we are a neutral fan in Melbourne watching the AFL, the game isnt the best, why the hell is the NRL hiding on a secondary channel? People might flick over last night and see a great game and be like this NRL is pretty good. Then maybe today they flick on the TV to watch the Storm play.

Thats 1 way we grow the game.

Not being on the "main" channel isn't that big a deal for mine, it's one button on a remote. My biggest gripe is that it's not in HD on the freeview channels.

seriously
if there were Sydneysiders sitting around scratching their bums looking to be entertained last night
for $25 or what ever it was
there'd of been no better entertainment anywhere then that final last night

top shelf stuff
2 sides turning it on ... just awesome !!

Ha
While it was a close game let's not get too excited
Both teams had some absolute shockers.
Lucky they were playing each other.

yeah no
I'd prefer to see a mistake filled game where sides have a crack
15 line breaks , & the ball getting air , rampant stupidty & people going OMG
then boring , structured , completion rates of 90% , & 3 line breaks
utter dross that sends people to sleep.... like some ... cough .. cough .. Sharks finals Ive seen
any day
that was a final & a half last night
games like that will get them in the gates
more please !!

It doesn't matter what people think of the quality of teams two and three in the comp, once upon a time the game would have drawn 30,000 plus at the SFS. Any 2v3 game in finals used to get that there. In fact just about any finals game did. It shows how far the game has fallen and how few people in Shitney can be bothered. At this rate people will be happy to get 15,000 in a few years. Better hope it's not a 60,000 seat venue by then. Better start lobbying the government to upgrade Redfern to hold 15k and start playing there.

It was entertaining the last 15 mins or so. Thank the Roosters for their inabilty to finish the opposition off.

Otherwise it was poor quality.

Don't blame the sharks
Last year we had a belter against you losers
Then smashed the cowboys
Then pulled off one of the greatest grand final upsets in history
The last minute will probably go down as the most intense ever.
All without pathetic missed tackles and idiotic plays ( fergo).

I explained why small poorly supported clubs like Manly , Penrith , Norths etc had no problem getting crowds in the mid to high 30K's at the SFS in the mid 90's to finals regularly against any opponent

first it was a top 5
legimate contenders only
second it was day finals only
TV coverage , no live finals , a replay an hour after fulltime , & no pay TV either
third , an all finals ticket to every final including the GF at very competitive prices that were hugely popular & easy to do with all finals played at the one venue

things are very different now
& statements like ... see how far the game has fallen .. are pointless without analysing why we used to get the crowds we did & how we might be able to get them again under the present modern set up

It was a top quality game in my books.

Prefer that sort of game over a boring 10-6 scoreline or something

define quality
90% completion rates
few missed tackles
structured modern game plan , hit it up in yardage , little passing , get to your kick , put it in the corners
chase
jam up ,
repeat

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

last night had some horrendous football
but it was like a car crash
you couldn't take your eyes of it

Spot on.

https://afltables.com/rl/crowds/summary.html

All NRL finals crowds hovering about that 30-35k Ave.

So much negative bullshit from some posters and they don't even know whats going on......haha

Keep learning these fools Dave.

we provided the entertainment in the first final , you lot were just hanging on
then we lost hodges & you do what you guys do
ground it out playing structured boring football ....the Cowboys were damaged goods going into the prelim but the footy was good

the GF had 1 minute of real entertainment
the rest was stodge

We were missing gal and then wade graham got knocked out
Then prior ran through you blokes
It was a masterclass in rugby league
Total toughness
Plus there was the clap
That was a different masterclass

The GF was end to end
Blokes were out on their fee but just throwing themselves at each other.
You must have been drunk and crying ... the tears blurred your vision.
