the difference being nearly everyone paid for a ticket at the soccer & rugby
while
hardly anyone will at the fudgets game lol
Nah, you still have to make the effort to go.
I would not go to a game of union just because it was free.
We all say the NRL should make tickets cheaper or kids free then when another code does it, that somehow makes the crowd worthless?

My mate who works in Sydney reckons some guy came in and was handing out free tickets like hot cakes

And that's just 1 smallish kinda business. I could imagine 1000s of free tix get given away in Sydney & probably Melbourne too

This has been their strategy for quite some time. Can only assume that very few people who are given free tickets are converted into full time fans.

Love the free tickets comments, then when asked where you can get one it goes silent. We had the same a few weeks ago for the college game, apparently Sydney was awash with free tickets yet when people asked how to get one it suddenly became a mate of a mate said lol

Personally I think if you sell 75% of tickets and want to fill the place then give aways or heavily discounted in last day or two is a good idea. I'd rather have seen Allianz full with last minute freebies than 50% empty last weekend.

never heard of free tickets for any code being given away in Melbourne. I know Storm have a small stadium by Melbourne standards but we do very well given that tickets are not cheap. Interestingly, in Melbourne Storm tickets are more expensive than AFL And in Sydney Swans more expensive than NRL.
GWS are the exception. We will be able to see in 10 years time if giving away thousands of free tickets is actually a good long term strategy.

Seriously? They are on OzBargain all the time, one offer this year was up to 4 free tickets per person if you lived in a particular suburb of Melbourne.
