I would love a 3 week window where the regular seasons stops, origin is played and Samoa, Fiji, PNG, NZ, Tonga and Cook Islands play some tests

Could also make it a transfer window for players coming off market to keep things interesting in club land during the mid season

Im of the opinion the NRL needed to present a Round 1 that will maximise crowds to set the tone, im not sure they have doen that. I would have had

Thursday 8pm - Sharks vs Panthers at Shark Park, Premier host first game against young exciting Panthers
Friday 6pm - Warriors vs Eels at Eden Park - Bold stadium choice and Foran rivalry, suits NZ time best
Friday 8pm - Bunnies vs Tigers at ANZ - Use the rivalry while its hot, big game for Sydney to open the season
Sat 4pm - Knights vs Dragons at Hunter - Guaranteed a good crowd
Sat 6pm - Storm vs Titans at AAMi - Bring Hayne to Melbourne to start the year
Sat 8pm - Cowboys vs Sea Eagles - Guaranteed a good crowd
Sun 2pm - Raiders vs Bulldogs - Raiders deserve a home game to start the year after a good season
Sun 4pm - Broncos vs Roosters at Suncorp - Bit of a novelty with Broncos on Sunday arvo, still 9 game vs NSW

All teams played each other twice. Nothing worse than having reduced club matches during Origin/Test.

It would be interesting to know how much money two extra teams - i.e. one extra game per round - would bring to the game through a TV deal, and whether or not it would make up for removing one or two full rounds of games (e.g. adding 22 extra games involving new teams, minus 16 games for two current rounds).
