Anyone know why ISC is showing all the marvel design in their old jersey template? Even the computer generated jersey designs are in their old jersey. Pretty strange.

Surely they could have organised something with Canterbury to have a Warriors Black Panther Jersey...

So... We have a red and blue team wearing a red-white-blue jersey, and a red-white-blue team wearing a red and blue jersey. Also previously having been worn by said red and blue team.

Who decides these things?!

Do the ISC clubs get a say in this? I can only imagine that the clubs were willing to switch around because they'd sell more if they were of a different character than before. I know the Knights still sell (cheaply, mind you, as they're trying to get rid of them) their Spiderman jersey from 2015. Going with Spiderman again wouldn't help to move on their old stock nor sell new ones, so in that regard I can understand the new character, but to have another club using it?

Now I have a jersey in my wardrobe that's going to look like a 2017 Sydney Roosters jersey, there will be Dragons supporters who will look like they're supporting Brisbane, and Cowboys kiddies running around with a jersey that looks like they're going for Melbourne.

I agree with others. This is a stupid concept that cheapens the look of the NRL and I would personally be happy the day they stop doing it. The only people happy with this are comic nerds and the clubs who rake in the cash.

Not sure if the Thor shirt had that much gold in it when the Cowboys wore it but I like the Melbourne version! The Suzuki sleeves look a bit odd in the black box though!

Here is my summary of the jerseys and sorry I'm abit of a marvel novice. Overall I think they did a good job matching team colours to marvel characters.

Rooster / Spiderman - 8.5 / 10 My pick of the bunch . Nice colours and better than Newcastle's version last year.I think it's the additional red on this one that makes it look better.

Canberra/ Ironfist - 5/10 Team Colours go pretty well of the character of Ironfist. Pretty plain looking and nothing will beat the Hulk one the raiders had as it was possibly the best jersey I've seen in years. Ironfist or Marvel fans will like this though. Just not for me.

Knights / Iron Patriot - 8.5/10 - I like this alot . Resembles the Iron Patriot well and keeps in with the knights colours . Much better than Spider-Man last year.

Tigers / rocket raccoon - 6 / 10 ISC Did a nice job in remaking this marvel character in to a jersey . Personally I just think the rocket raccoon is a average at best Super hero.

Cowboys / Captain America - 7/10 I like the Jersey , but for me it needs some yellow in it to disguise it away from Roosters previous version of Captain America . Just looks too much like roosters colours.

Storm / Thor - 8.5/10 One of my favs. Would definitely buy it if I was a storm fan or a Thor fan.

Dragons / Antman - 8.0/10 I like it , good team / character match up. Good blend of colours that match the character. Don't know Antman but hey good design.

Broncos / Ironman- 7.5 At first I wasn't keen but at closer inspection I thought it was a winner. A decent colour match to the real iron man and the Broncos colours. Probably will outsell all other marvel teams.

Manly / Falcon - 7.0/10 Only marked it down because I don't know the character . On deeper inspection the colours are dead on for a manly / Falcon jersey. Marvel fans of Falcon will love it.

I dont mind these Marvel rounds...

They jerseys are decent designs and kids would love them.

I just wish the NRL would limit the number of jumpers a team can put out; eg Home, Away, Gimmick, Charity (not counting 9s or dumb training shirts either). SURELY that is enough for 1 year....

I feel the same .

Have 1 home , 1 away Jersey and max 2 other "special jerseys".

Currently we have the following "special round" jerseys-
Anzac jersey
Heritage round jersey
9s Jersey
WCC jersey (if ur team is good enough or wants to participate)
Marvel round or in souths case Superman jersey.
Close the gap , Aboriginal theme jersey.
Charity on Jersey
Women's league jersey

Can people stop saying this cheapens the NRL? Marvel is a hugely popular company. They're a juggernaut. If you look at all time worldwide top grossing movies, #5 is Avengers, #7 is Avengers 2 and #12 is Cap America Civil War. Even something with a dreadful name like Antman reached #1 in the Aussie Box Office for a couple of weeks. Everybody has heard of some Marvel superheroes - Spiderman, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Ironman, the X-Men, Deadpool....... Marvel is an elite company so it does not cheapen our game to be associated with them. In fact, it shows that we have a great sport/competition because prestigious Marvel is onboard with us. Maybe if we had a Myer round, and each team had jerseys based on a different department in that shop then you could say that it is cheapening our game. And plus, the jerseys look great. They're visually appealing. A lot better than adding a tacky superman logo onto the jersey like souffs do.

Marvel is part of Disney too, so quite elite.

Nice dig at Souths too. ;-)

No one is denying that Marvel is a huge brand with big money. The initiative still cheapens the NRL as it compromises the identities of the teams that wear them, placing the importance of an external branding opportunity above remaining identifiable as the actual team.

It's bad enough looking like billboards on the best of days, now we have managed to reduce a club's on-field look to the club logo on a sea of external marketing.

And no, they don't necessarily look good. They're excessively garish, usually share none of the team colours, and pretty much all look the same. I see an adult wearing one and think "man-child" in the same way I see a Tapout shirt and think "try-hard". Not trying to have a go at anyone that wears them but there are some of us that view them as tacky eyesores.

Having said that, I understand that clubs, the NRL and suppliers should be trying to extract as much commercial value out of the jersey as is reasonably possible. But in this thread of all threads, there should be a concession that its not all gravy.

I also don't care if clubs release a multitude of superhero/cause du jour/my little pony/etc... jerseys as off-field merchandise or training gear. That's a decent compromise imo.

Four designs in the proper season seems fair. I'd like to see home and away designs worn a minimum of 20 games (min 10 home games) per year and then allow up to 4 games to wear up to two other designs.

Nail on the head. Doesn't matter how big Marvel is, it puts the focus on Marvel and not the heritage and history of the clubs and their own brands.

Glad my club isn't apart of the ISC family so I can avoid this mess.

I don't see why we should stop at marvel anyway, we need Disney to get involved so we can have lion king, toy story, aladdin etc. It can be 'kids round'.

My personal favourite would be Jerry Bruckheimer week, jerseys with explosions and shit. Lots of Nicholas cage, transformers etc.

Everyone should have one jersey (the traditional one) and perhaps a 'clash/away' jersey.

Then, for ANZAC Round, WIL round, Indigenous round...the NRL patch on the jersey is decorated / coloured as such.

IE - Indigenous art theme, pink / purple, slouch hat / sombre soldier. And it's all done in the one weekend not hodgepodge.

And with Marvel, this is where the NRL should centralise sponsorship. So if they play MARVEL round, that's the main sponsor on everyone's gear for the week. Clubs can then go about worrying about their core business - running a football team.
