2018 Crowd Watch

Partially true. Newcastle's public transport is essentially non existent.

Let's not pretend that Sydney people don't get out to numbers to other events. Cricket matches draw big crowds. The swans draw big crowds. The A league derbies draw big crowds. The big matches like Socceroos, SOO etc draw big crowds. Shit all sorts of events in Sydney draw huge crowds.

We need to convince people that NRL matches are events worth getting out to and right now we're failing on that front.
Agree with this too

That’s an incredible crowd for Newcastle considering the aids time shot and also the Jets are playing in the a-league gf tomorrow so a lot of families wouldn’t have enough money to go to both.

Nah, we just go to the footy.

I think people don't realise how far people travel for knights games. I know people who travel down from Scone, Muswellbrook, Singleton and all over the upper hunter.

Also a lot of people will park as much as 20+ minutes walk from the stadium.

People in Newcastle make the effort because it's seen as an event and because rugby league is simply more popular here.

The A league GF is pretty cheap and judging by the ticketing disaster I'm not sure how many in Newcastle actually got tickets in the end.

Obviously not NRL GF costs but it was still nearly $50 just for the hill when I looked (and those were the first to go). Tough for people to pay for two games in consecutive nights.

And South Sydney have a lot of fans in Newcastle. It helps when hosting that popular clubs are visiting.

Yep, the good thing about playing Souths is that they have a lot of fans in Newcastle who can still attend the game despite the aids time slot. I feel it will be lower next week playing Penrith at the same time.

Yes. Absolutely! Penrith are not a big crowd drawing club. Knights will have to market some cheaper tickets for that game!

It’s not the money. They got nearly 23k tonight at those prices. It’s the aids timeslot that will stop Penrith fans going, not the ticket prices.

Penrith do not draw as big as South Sydney. If you are going to increase this crowd it will be by attracting local Knights fans with cheaper ticket prices. You won't get anywhere near the Rabbitohs turnout as their is nowhere near the number of Penrith fans. Therefore cheaper prices for the local Knights fans would be wise for this difficult timeslot. Although I'm starting to think Newcastle people don't mind 6pm timeslot. Perhaps family friendly ?

Too many teams playing outof Sydney. Cut back that number and you just might solve the problem.

Lol. Or make the problem bigger!? So far decreasing the top flight clubs in Sydney has resulted in a decline in crowds and confidence/regard in the code. But then some people can't see that!

Probably because it's not factual. The current number of Sydney teams correlates with the best period of average NRL crowds. Fact.

That's probably where we differ. I believe the code is underachieving bigtime. It's a far more easier and attractive code to watch than its rivals. Deserves better in so many ways. And bigger crowds are overdue.

knights have 16k members so most attending tonight would have paid for tonight months ago. Soccer tomorrow not a factor.
