While i mostly agree, we are ALREADY diluting the value of the NRL...

Better if it is possible to make NRL better without damaging Origin. But even if Origin needs to cop a small reduction in value, if it means the NRL making big gains out of it, then that is ok.

TV doesn't allow for big gains in NRL though. Thurs and Fri nights will always drag down. As will teams form. Dogs and Parra sitting in bottom 4 affects the crowd. It is a tough ask to find the right mix

Yep
I'm sorry, a women's origin & games of that level, arent going to cut it for a month
Boredom will set in waiting for the men's origin, interest potentially lost

Thankfully in this regard at least
Broadcasters run our game, so the NRL will never be fully suspended while this occurs
& some of the luney tunes ideas in here given a run

''waiting for the men's origin'?? It's a week, the same amount of time you wait for your NRL team to play every round.

Yeah let's not have big crowds in PNG and Sydney/NZ for Tonga/Samoa games, we need 7,000 crowds at ANZ & Canberra for 3 weeks still.

It won't work for 3 weeks
People won't cop their NRL teaming missing for what is essentially a month in the middle of the season to watch.. One.. Pacific test & one Origin a weekend
Plonking it all on one weekend & suspending the comp for that weekend is ok, people will tolerate it
But that's as far as we need to go

NRL fans do you putz LOL

What do you think NRL fans do in the summer? They find other things to entertain them which they wouldn't have to do during the suggested rep window as there is plenty of rugby league on!

Why would you prefer to continue to see 4-6 origin effected NRL rounds as opposed to 0 and 3 x what we are seeing this weekend?

Excatly
I would much rather prefer that when I watch NRL games mid season it's the best of each team playing .
Not a SOO depleted side .
Plus the bonus of watching the Pacific teams ..women's SOO .other tests ,make it a win win .
Then back for the build up to seasons end/run to the finals .

ahhh
you keep making stupid irrelevant comparisons like
theres no momentum in round one either
fans do other things in summer
we're not talking about either , we're talking about stopping the comp for a month right in the middle after having 12 or 13 rounds played & asking people to pick up their interest where they left off a month earlier
the interest will wane in the competition if we suspend the comp for a month & it won't matter what you put on in lieu of it , never mind the fact that if we try & stretch the other content over a month , not one weekend & trying to come up with enough quality to keep people interested. 1 weekend with no NRL is fine
3 is not
the 2018 system has just 2 rounds potentially affected by Origin , not 4 , certainly not 6
its the best system we've had to date , its the one we should run with for the foreseeable future.
The only change I would make is the 2nd Origin/rep round weekend on the Long weekend in June.

How is the comparison irrelevant? NRL fans manage to go 6 months basically with no rugby league at all and they don't suddenly stop being fans or switch sports. I don't see how 3-4 weeks filled with rep games is suddenly going to be the thing that makes them bored.

You make it sound like it would be hard to come up with content. SOO, women's SOO, international matches between PNG, Fiji, Tonga, Somoa, NZ, Eng (who knows maybe even a 3 match series), nines tournaments etc. There are so many options.

Under the current conditions you might only have a couple of games directly impacted by SOO but one look at crowds tells you just how much interest drops for the full 8 week period.

The current system is the one that has NRL fans tuning out in their droves. The 3-4 week break with a big NRL relaunch will drive interest not kill it.

Great crowds across the weekend. Now let’s build on them not throw it away because clubs/Kent/Gould whinge about it.

The pacific test should just be Tonga vs Sonia (which would still sellout). Would much rather see PNG play at home to a packed out stadium.

Surely this is statistically likely every year that we’ll have a couple of big drawing teams outside the 8? This year we’ve got dragons, storm, warriors, broncosand Souths who all have big fanbases so 5 out of 8 big fanbase clubs in the 8.

Last year at this time we had storm, broncos, dragons, eels and cowboys in 8 with big fanbases.

It would seem we usually have around 5 of the top 8 clubs with big fanbases in the 8,

Yep totally agree, no need for it to be a DH in Sydney other than ease of coverage for Fox.
You could have Lebanon v USA or Cook Islands as the first game if wanted a DH for content.

Be good to see France playing as well in France against wales or Ireland or USA.

Hahah, but this logic GF week should be the most boring week on the year...

It won't work for 3 weeks
People won't cop their NRL teaming missing for what is essentially a month in the middle of the season to watch.. One.. Pacific test & one Origin a weekend
Plonking it all on one weekend & suspending the comp for that weekend is ok, people will tolerate it

Ive never understood this logic...

People are so in love with the game and so desparate for content that they are upset is the game is paused for more than a week. And we are meant to believe that these people will suddenly become VFL or Soccer fans after 3 weeks without NRL?

I get that people will be annoyed, but thats kind of a good thing. Using the anticipation to build these regular NRL rounds into a big comeback event.
