hahahaha
what the hell has ... normally .. got to do with it
according to you this is what we've all been waiting for , something different , forget normal
well guess what , apparently someone forgot to tell everyone because those ratings aren't that great & below NRL ratings , considerably under any circumstance pointing to a lot of people not watching any league at all
118K for PNG & Fiji
probably 50% down on an NRL equivalent game at that time ( yeah we can have a direct comparison there ) , 381K for a combined telecast as hyped up as it was aint gunna convince anyone at the ARLC that suspending the NRL for a month won't have an effect
they'll side with the relics , because the relics are right :)
delusional clowns continue to flame away LOL
Nothing to do with flaming, just continually countering your absolute drivel.

You're ignoring the FTA ratings because they don't suit your argument and trying to make some sort of direct comparison as thought it has some sort of relevance (even to the length of ignoring the fact that GEM broadcasted PNG v Fiji)

You keep yelling at clouds, clown

Then you haven't been reading what ive been writing
Ive said about ten times now , this year is an improvement , but that's enough
I'm addressing this delusional talk of extending it for 3 weekends
that's ... lunacy

There was less games this week. A one off is fine but how would these events go for several weeks in arow. That is why it won't expand from what we have now

It's almost like they'd have an opportunity to tinker with it...

Great atmosphere at the game last night. The pre match entertainment was brilliant. Well done to all involved.

TV rule you should know that. TV won't let the comp stand down for a few weeks

I don't see why TV would have a problem with it.

They are still getting 192 NRL regular season games and all the ratings that come with it. In fact, one could argue better ratings through the middle part of the season given no teams will be forced to play without origin players.

On the 3 weekends with no NRL, they get SOO prime time on a Sunday night and all the other rep fixtures around it. The only negative I can see for TV is they get one less Friday night and Sunday arvo game than this year due to the 192 NRL games being played over 24 rounds as opposed to 25.

TV is gainiing content for the exact same season length (31 weeks round 1 to Grand Final), the 3 off weekends have 4m+ Origin viewers to anchor them.

So instead of a lot of B strength NRL games you have all full strength NRL games. Instead of 3 international and 1 women's game you have 10+ internationals, up to 3 women's Origins, juniors Origin, even a 9's tournament could be an option.

It doesn't necessarily have to be all in one hit either, it could work having 2 full NRL rounds between Origins to draw it out a bit, I think the main thing is getting rid of any games where clubs are forced to lose players, whilst building a strong rep window around it, I don't see how anybody really loses.

Fantastic weekend of footy, there's no reason why it can't be expanded upon in future.

Using this year's calendar as an example.. NRL could pause after Round 12, May 27. To go into this rep window:

june 1-3: NZ v Tonga, England v Ireland, Italy v Fiji, Lebanon v PNG, Samoa v Cook Isl
june 6 ORIGIN 1
june 8-11: Samoa v Tonga, PNG v Fiji, NZ v England, Italy v Lebanon, Cooks v Vanuatu
june 15-17: Samoa v Tonga, PNG v Fiji, NZ v England, Italy v Lebanon, Cooks v Solomons
june 16 ORIGIN 2
june 22-24: Samoa v Tonga, PNG v Fiji, NZ v England, Italy v Lebanon, Vanuatu v Solomon Isl
june 23 ORIGIN 3

June 28 NRL restarts at Round 13

Feel free to fill in the International games with whatever takes your fancy, this is just an example.
Chuck in 3x Women's SOO games too.

No more half-arsed club games, non-rep players come back fresh, rep players come back on a high after representing their state or country.
This could be the NRL's next big revolution.

weeks yes content no. Origin ratings were down compared to Wed games

No Thurs night footy. Friday was down on the 2 games. Same with Sat and Sunday either had an early morning game or night game.

So we will need more content to get this to work TV is king afterall

That last sentence is the problem with getting this up and going. Ratings held up well but less games and SOO being down is the problem.

Weeks no, content yes.

We will literally still have the exact same amount of NRL games as every other year just without the cripple fight half rounds, all full strength which is a massive win. I'd rather watch no NRL one week then a full strength round the other than suffer through 2 half strength half rounds.

Weeks, we would have 1 more than this year, but before this year we always had 27 pre-finals with the rep weekend in April/May.

So we lose 1 Thursday night slot, but also lose any Origin affected games and gain 2 weeks extra rep football. Like I said I don't really see who loses out of this, I don't think TV would be too upset over losing a couple of 'slots' when the payoff is a much better quality competition for content instead of the huge mid-season drop we see now.

The assertions that the ratings are "down" is utterly absurd. Origin 2 was less than last year by a small margin, but the other matches all performed either similar or better to comparable NRL games in similar slots.

Particularly the 6am game on FOX lol

Speak for yourself Dave. You're a relic stuck in the past. A packed NSO last night, packed Campbelltown tonight, 20k+ in Denver tomorrow morning and a near-capacity ANZ tomorrow night is fine by me and more of the same over 3 weekends would the perfect mid-season tonic.

You seem keen to ignore how bad Origin-period club footy crowds are to advance your point. It's odd.

yes, I can see Women's Origin and the Pacific Tests growing into something pretty special in the coming decade.
