I'm not shocked by 19k last night. Cronulla v Penrith, played nowhere near either team's HQ (~40km+ away for Penrith) and neither side are world beaters when it comes to average attendance in recent years.

For all the hand-wringing about this crowd, we'll all be praising a ground record in 7 days from now at the same venue

Right week 2 finals should be played at suburban grounds now

The year before we decided week 2 and 3 should be home finals we had Knights v Broncos get 22k at the SFS. Now we get people whinging that some all-Sydney finals should be played at suburban grounds because the clubs have f**k all fans.

If Cronulla, Penrith and Manly can't get 20k fans to support them in finals then f**k their home ground advantage. If it's Tigers v Eels week 2 finals would we say play it at Leichhardt? Of course not because there'd likely be 50k+ at ANZ.

Sharks v Panthers were never going to top 20,000 at Allianz, its just too far for their supporters to travel. So we either put up with smaller crowds, and less atmosphere then we want or the NRL allocates finals games to clubs homes grounds.

Let’s not go crazy, this is the Sharks and Penrith we’re talking about it. 21,000 would be ambitious for them.
