So have gws had less than 10k fans turn up for a finals game?

Yes. 2 (3?) seasons ago when they played the Western Bulldogs at Spotless. Crowd was less than 20000 and they were massively outnumbered by Dogs fans.
Last week when they played the Swans, there'd be lucky to have been 5000 there. There's 2 examples.
I live in GWS territory. There's f**k all supporters around here wearing any sort of merchandise, nor are there stickers on cars etc. No one I know follows them. In fact, most people I know despise them. I know some AFL fans around here, and they all follow the Swans. Around here (north west Sydney), it's all NRL. Mostly Eels fans, but plenty of Tigers and Rabbits fans, and a smattering of others. There's also a lot of Wanderers stuff being worn and displayed. Also Sydney FC.
You may or may not like it, nor may you care, but honestly, GWS are a f**king no show in Western Sydney, despite the U.S.S.R. type propaganda pedaled by the AFL heirachy.
I'm happy though for the ALF to keep throwing their millions into the GWS Titanics.

Local?

The two teams are about as far from each other as you can be in Sydney playing at a joint nowhere near either

17 k in melb last week

Last time I checked Penrith and Cronulla were both suburbs of Sydney. Strangely enough most Storm fans don’t live anywhere near AAMI Park - more likely to come in from outer suburbs with a 45 minute+ trip to get to a game. Not that different to Cronulla to SFS.

I don’t see anyone suggesting last week’s Melbourne crowd was a good turnout. But if the NRL want to schedule games up against AFL blockbusters it’s bound to happen. Every MCG final this year has had 90k+ attend, not easy to compete with that.

I disagree with all of that
Have you asked anyone near where Melbourne play what NRL team they follow?

Of course you haven’t.

Penrith is barely in Sydney.

Tickets are pretty cheap considering it's a finals match.

Oh noes a long walk from the train station. How can anyone from outside Sydney possibly empathise with such a terrible burden?

Oh the usual finishes too late argument. Doesn't seem to affect the AFL who's games go for an hour longer than hours and often finish later.

Oh but I forgot the NRL is a special snowflake and these problems only affect our fans.

I currently live in Scone and have to travel 2 hours just to see any NRL matches. Much like fans from NQLD I find it hilarious seeing people from Sydney lecture everyone else because they have to travel SO far. Give me a break.
That's your problem, why would anyone live in Scone? move to Aberdeen and you will save 15 mins on that trip and not have to live in Scone.

It's well known that most Melbourne Storm supporters live in the outer suburbs of Melbourne.

All you have to do is look at where the local Rugby League teams are in Melbourne (in particular the junior ones)--- they are all in outer suburbs like Sunbury, Werribee, Pakenham, Cragieburn, Cranbourne, etc.
