Front page of Cairns Post today announced the Cowboys returning to Cairns. Can't find a link anywhere so no info whether it's a trial, a home game or an away game. Very much doubt it will be a home game.

Time lots are not going to change. The broadcasters have paid for 8 games a week.
Those games need to be on in 8 different time slots. Even if they were to change they wouldn’t be slots much better than what we have now.
What shouldn’t happen is stupid selection of games like Souths Vs Roosters or Dogs vs Eels on a Thursday night. That is still a big improvement in my book.

the only way to avoid these types of games
& the Cows V Broncos etc from going onto a Thursday slot is for them to be left off the 65 premium games the NRL chooses for ch 9
then they can only go on Saturday night or Sunday

Yes and no. Nine still gets to pick from an nrl nominated 95 premium games. Nine can then schedule them in its three slots as it sees fit. Be interesting to see how big the nrl's balls are in what it puts up as premium games. In theory we could still see Brisbane most Friday nights and games like Sth smith v Bulldogs on a Thursday night. Hopefully this year has been a big enough kick in the backside that neither party wants that but this is ch nine!

Not sure how much control fox will have, hopefully none and nrl give it every warriors home game and every nz on the road game for the Friday 6pm. Compensate warriors for it and help them build a Friday night crowd.
65 , not 95

I think the NRL gets to dictate to the networks who is playing on what days, thus preventing the Brisbane monotiny of Friday night games and 7-day turnarounds.

no they don't unfortunately
they choose 65 " premium" games for 9 , that 9 then puts onto Thursday , Friday nights
& Sunday afternoons ....

I understand the number of Broncos games on Fridays is about half of the number in 2018 that it was in 2017 , that includes away games too

Trial only but I didn't have my glasses to read the details.

the Perth Double header would obviously be on the Saturday & im assuming at 7.30pm & 9.30pm eastern times .. 5.30pm & 7.30pm WA times
Bulldogs V Broncos & Souths V Warriors hopefully
so I think a perfect round one would be

Thurs: 8pm Titans V Cowboys ( 7pm QLD time kickoff ) 15,000
Friday: 6pm Roosters V Manly 15,000
Friday: 8pm Raiders V Penrith 15,000
Sat : 5.30pm Melb V Parramatta 20,000
Sat: 7.30pm Souths V Warriors 60,000
Sat: 9.30pm Bulldogs V Broncos
Sun: 4pm Tigers V Sharks Leichardt 15,000
Sun: 6pm Newcastle V Dragons 20,000
Storm need early home games before AFL starts. Three in a row to start the season. Each could draw 25k. They could draw anywhere from 30 - 40k in Perth. It is no longer the first sporting event at the stadium.

No, sadly, the NRL isn't first there anymore. A week or so after the announcement that the first sporting event at the new Perth Stadium was going to be the NRL double-header, the aussie rules mob came out and said 'Yeah, well, WE are now holding a womens aussie rules game there the week before'. I heard they're charging $2 per ticket for it too.

hence why I have the Storm playing at home in rnd 1
they're the premiers & should be at home to start the year anyway

& I don't count a womens game with the players having the skills set of u 14's boys & free entry as an event at all

Yes but and fans that just want to experience the ground for the first time will go to the AFLW. Especially since it it free. It will draw a similar crowd to the NRL.

Good initiative and good locality spread.Meaning fans who do not want to outlay full year membership monies, are able to reduce costs, still support their club and arrange travel accordingly.
Obviously ideal to just have one home base, but impossible with a joint venture.

Only if the club remains committed to archaic suburban grounds.

If they decided that, after almost 20years, its time to think about what is best for the West Tigers rather than the old boys factions, it would be easy to settle on a single home ground.

well in fact cricket is the first thing played there , so neither the womens kick n giggle game or the NRL will be first technically & id doubt it will have any effect on the NRL crowd which should draw very well
I don't think the womens bumbleathon will get anywhere near it personally
but time will tell

Yep. Unfortunately, I believe many of the timeslots are written into the broadcast agreements the NRL signed with Channel 9 and Fox Sports. Hence as you said, those won't change regardless of what us fans think. It will be in the distribution of games over time slots that should change with us not having 17-18 weeks of "Friday Night Broncos" syndrome.

There was a cricket game on before it anyway! They just couldn't stomach an nrl game before an all game lol. Having said that a women's afl game? Lol that will be a sporting spectacle I'm sure. Just hope we get up around 40k plus, 25k will look poor.

They should have two from 2019. Redeveloped Campbelltown (4) and the new western Sydney stadium (7) with one game on road (ideally v warriors in Hamilton or Dunedin for a Friday 6pm game)

big hit!

They should move to new Parra once it opens. Sure, there will be a stigma with it being Eels traditional home, but it means they can also have a home and consistency

Thing with Campbelltown is that folks moving into area already support clubs if they follow rugby league. The growth of the wests tigers in the MacArthur region doesn't appear to be big since merge.
