2018 Trials

IMO trials are somewhat meaningless. The first 5 rounds of the regular season are a lottery anyway, as to how you will perform / results of matches, & we've shown you can essentially lose 80% game in the first couple of months & still make the finals.

A third year in a row of scraping into the 8 and cleary is gone imo, why would a kid with his options stay at a club that is stuck in the mud and seemingly happy to be there????

We need to start strong to dispel any rumours of disharmony etc and give ourselves the best chance of keeping Nath. All of Griffins tenure has been completely disrupted in terms of our playing roster, a poor start to they year and more rumours of players going and things will get ugly imo. Griffin has a lot to prove this season, a lot.

If Cleary senior gets the tigers into the 8 in the next 2 years we should try and resign him and Nathan both on a million a season.

If he goes, he goes. That's football. We'll then have a pretty penny in the bank & can go into the market aggressively as well. The money we would of put aside for him would be enough to lure either 1 premier player or 2 quality players in the prime of their career.

Every good player comes off contract eventually. The circus around keeping Cleary (on here & in the media) is ridiculous.

It's probably because he's the best half we've had in a long time.

Pretty much. Whatever he chooses, the other 15 clubs aren't exactly going to just give up on life because they don't have him. There are other halfbacks.

We are in an awkward position of having to make the first move on a kid who is still potential. Offer too much and he doesn't kick on, and we could be f**ked for the length of his contract. Offer too little and he may flourish somewhere else, while we have to reset our spine. Other clubs can just sit and wait until they hear what we have tabled as an offer and then decide what to do, if anything.

We seem to be putting all our eggs in the Cleary basket.

Totally agree: Many of us have been Penrith Panther members and fans for a long time. Who would have thought a couple of years ago about the hole Foran found himself in (as an example).

Does anyone remember a kid called Waddell looked like a world beater at 17. Injuries basically killed his career off. (is he still playing).

A week is an age in rugby league, let alone 18 months.

If he goes the sun will still shine tomorrow and the world will continue. if that occurs, Panthers will pull themselves up and fight another day

We've definitely grown accustomed to it over the years. Losing both Brandy and Gower were tough times.

Greg was also one of the nicest kids you'd meet. Real tragedy that he never got the chance to show his wares in FG.

I posted before. Norman and Johnson for example come off contract then plenty of good kids that in 2 years could push senior guys out so who knows what the market will look like then.

$1.2m will get us anyone. I will just enjoy watching him while I can he won't make even talk to us until after the season. So no point worrying yet

If there’s another quality half off contract at the same time we’d be crazy not to have some discussions about a back up option.

I think Michael Morgan might be off contract.

In the process of resigning for another 5 years

Well, mostly just an example.

Hopefully there’s a back up plan of sorts, even if it’s not a big money guy. Brock Lamb could be another option.

I’d prefer to see the club shift to someone with NRL experience if possible.
