Players are absolutely shocking at playing the short ball nowadays

These merkins would get killed by the West Indian attacks of old

Itd be a no contest. I mean, could you imagine Warner facing Holding/Roberts/Garner in the '70s without a helmet and all the other protective equipment? LOL, he'd shit his pants before facing a ball. Just shows you just how good batsmen like Border and Gavaskar were to score runs off them.

Shouldve used Steve Waugh as the concussion substitute. Having taking on Marshall/Ambrose/Walsh etc during their glory years (and in more difficult batting conditions I might add), Im sure he could still match it with someone like Archer, and teach Warner how to bat in England

Bring him out to show these soft merkins how to dig in and build an innings. He'd take some imitation classless deserting merkin like Archer right on and never back down

In preparation for the next test, all batsmen in the Australian squad should be made to watch Youtube highlights of Allan Border and Steve Waugh's Ashes innings in England to see how to bat in English conditions. Steve Smith has been the only one so far to figure out you have to play the ball a fraction later than you would with the Kookaburra ball in Australia.

This prodding off the front foot to a moving ball aint going to work in this series.

Imagine facing a prime Michael Holding, on a 40 degree day at the WACA in its pomp, with no helmet, and a bunch of spuds all around you

Jesus Christ - f**k THAT

As I said, it just goes to show you just how good Allan Border was, especially when he scored 100* and 98* against them in Trinidad in 1984 to save a test match. Although its a crying shame it was never televised in Australia (a small highlights snippet appears in the Cricket in the 80s ABC documentary), many who were at the ground that day say it was one of the best test match batting performances of all time.

Kim Hughes 100* on a dodgy MCG pitch (back in the days before the AFL forced drop in pitches so their precious players wouldnt get hurt) is another great innings that comes to mind.

Only 2 wickets down at the tea break. Couldve been much worse but to their credit, Bancroft and Labuschagne have hung in there and only 35 overs to go.

Good stuff. Playing like they're facing a grenade each delivery but they're digging in. A helluva lot more than you can say for Warner the piss weak merkin

With nearly no batting preparation and being rushed into the team on short notice, Labuschagne has shown more composure than Warner has in his 4 innings this series.

I don't mind him at all, he's played a couple of good knocks during the limited opportunities he's had
