Forget that last hour - we just bowled a team out for 67 and still lost the match.
Bingo. When my team has enough opportunities to win a match without umpire intervention, I don't blame the umpire. We had an umbelievable amount of chances to win it.

Updated post:

How do umpires such as Joel Wilson end up on the ICC "Elite" panel??????

The officiating with him and Aleem Dar at Edgbaston was some of the worst umpiring I've seen in a test match, and he STILL got hired to do this test. Seriously, are the umpiring stocks outside of Australia and England really that low in the world to the point that he's the best they've got??

I mean, there's been some absolute shockers since it was introduced in 2002 (Russell Tiffin, Billy Bowden, Asoka De Silva , Rudi Koertzen come to mind), but that LBW off the last ball of Lyon was ABSOLUTELY plumb when I saw it live. Before the Hawkeye replay was shown, I could not believe it wasn't given out, regardless of whether it is in Saturday/Sunday arvo club cricket, grade cricket, state cricket, you name it......

Stokes played an outstanding innings and well done to him, but in reality, irrespective of Paine's crap captaincy (which needs to be examined between now and Old Trafford), Harris' drop catch (difficult chance, but he got a clean grab on the first attempt) and Lyon's missed run out chance (fielding blunder) just before the LBW controversy, regardless of all that stuff where we could've won it earlier, it still should've been game, set and match right then and there with that LBW, with the result being Australia winning by one run. If you're too pissweak to give it out, you shouldn't be umpiring, let alone at the highest level.

Reminds me of the NRL referees that are reluctant to blow a penalty out in golden point out of fear it will decide the match.
Nail on the head, drs has ruined cricket, as well as nrl. God it is so frustrating

The missed lbw was more the cherry on top of the shit sundae of the last hour. We had like one million chances to win in that hour. We also could have you know scored more runs in our second innings like i said one million times. Khawaja you f**king merkin

I don’t expect perfection but I expect umpires to give out plumb LBW’s. What do you mean hometown ump? He isn’t from England.

I agree there was plenty of f**k ups from us but that should have been given out. It’s a shocking decision and us playing badly doesn’t change that.
I was a shocking decision....but how many opportunities did we have to close the match before that decision was made?

There is a term in boxing.....don't leave the match to the judges scorecards. Australia did when there was no way that it should have got to that point.

Wilson bottled it basically the merkin. Again though we set England 500 to win and bat to day 3 stumps like the very stable genius pete cash said we should and England are bowled out for probably 200

Imagine generations in the future and Ben Stokes writes about about 2019 and how he and his country has been blessed by lady luck.
