Yes it does. It shows that what you think about batting 1st doesn't matter as much as you think. It will be much better to bat on for side batting 2nd in their first innings. The only problem is that we have to bowl them out for 300-350. That's the risk you take.

Different teams different circumstances. Has absolutely nothing to do with this game where we have the worlds best batsman in career best form and only need a draw to take the series. And we just bowled last on the previous test a few days ago.

Last 10 tests here going back to 2009, side batting second has won 5 times, side batting 1st 4 times, 1 draw.

hardly relevant.
aust have a far better record batting 1st wherever it's played...

Eng already moved into favouritism, totally switched since the toss decision. Ing 2.09 favs now, Aust was that before toss decision.

Spot on, it’s only about 50/50 anyway. Plus who was playing???

Cook sent us in 4 years ago and lost by an innings.

Not specifically talking about this match cos as I said earlier I reckon it would have been a decent toss to lose...but f**k I hate the old Chapelli "Bat first 9 times out of 10, and on the tenth have a think about it then bat" mentality.

What time of year were those tests played? Hasn’t rained in London since the Lords test. This is drier than it looks.

Wondering how thigh pads making that kinda noise don't make them a bit of a liability

You'd think surely you'd ensure the material composition of it is made to have the noise of the ball hitting it picked up distinctly different to that of an edge of a bat

Denly is showing why the lightsaber leave needs to go into the coaching manual. It looks weird but its a commitment to leaving the ball. He has taken the bat twice now leaving and that can be a disaster

I’ve always thought Erasmus is a horrible umpire and Chuckasema is no better.

The umpires this series are the worst umpires in the game IMO. I can't think of a worse Test umpire than the ones they've had handling these matches? I dunno how many times fans and players have to say it but we want the best umpires for the best series.

Does anyone, even at the ICC, reckon KettleBrah is suddenly going to turn into Umpire Venkat just cos he's umpiring the Ashes?

Which bodes well for a team batting 2nd and that needs to lose 20 wickets to lose the match. Unless we collapse in two consecutive innings here, we control the tempo of this game. Batting 2nd was a safe option here. It lowers the chance of losing.

But yes if they go on to make 500+, it was the wrong decision. 5 overs in, way too early to be panicking about bad decisions.

Wilson was added to the elite panel because they simply did not have umpires for this series. Its a farce. Half the elite panel is from Australia or England. There are zero Indian elite umpires.
