So Cleary takes us within one game of getting the wooden spoon in his final year, and now we are welcoming him back like some kind of savior?

What the f**k is with this club sometimes?

He took us to within one game, one try almost of the gf the year before. Go and look at the squad he did it with and the injuries.

Clearys attack may have been basic but it wasn’t limited like hooks, the players were actually allowed to play what they see.

IF he comes back they will have likely have talked about the roles the assistants and even brandy and Gus will be playing IMO.

I like your moral stance except that clubs shaft coaches all the time. They shaft players too. I am sure that many others have been in a business that has been acquired by another business and a whole bunch of great employees get walked out the door to err, "reduce cost". Some of them with 20 years service. Gone walked out the door," we are moving everything to head office". Now two wrongs don't make a right, but Ivan must do what is right for him and his family.

This is business, if the Tigers get compensation, c'est la vie.
If Ivan does come to the Panthers, Ivan must realize that Nathan's preference is to stay here, and that the Panthers will further his career.

Sorry for the intrusion as a Tigers fan but I have to interject here and I've heard this argument many times recently and its totally wrong.

A contract is held between two parties and to be legal has to benefit both parties (its called consideration).

In the situation where a player or coach is sacked by the club, they still need to receive consideration, ie, they get paid. So if the Tigers were paying Ivan say $500K pa with two years to go and said "you are crap get out", that would be unpleasant potentially for Ivan (or player) but they still get that money. In this example he would still get the $1M. Hasler is a great example of that, or Woods or half of the Bulldogs squad recently.

In this case, one party is breaking the contract and the other party receives no consideration for it. If Ivan walks, the Tigers dont pay him, but we dont have the coach or the rest of what we were paying him for either.

Its a totally different thing.

Thanks for that imput. I'm a pleb I have no idea about things like this.

Restrictive covenants are also almost unenforceable without consideration (compensation). You can't ask somebody not to work and not give them any money for it. All employers would be able to keep you locked in their employment if they could and it would cost them no more than the ink on the clause in the contract.

I wonder if perhaps we have both revealed our professional training or current employment ;)

Yes, who we fired because he was "tired". And now three years later we are acting like total dicks trying to lure back a coach we fired because he was "tired".

What a clusterf**k.

If there's litigation over this it will be Wests Tigers vs Cleary. Penrith will be an interested onlooker. The nastier it gets, the less viable he'll be as the Tigers coach. Maybe the Panthers will end up giving them a couple of reserve graders as compensation.
