More meters would be nice. Less flying out of the line and missing a shot would be nice too.

In the defence of RCG he had never been a 150 metres plus front rower. We have tended to share around the metres gained by having four front rowers who all make in excess of 100 metres.

I was concerned when we resigned him on a big five year deal and am really concerned it was a mistake. Despite the jaw injuries i don’t see value in his reported $700K season and I can’t see that changing.

RCG from my perspective is your $400K a season off the bench do a solid job for 30-40 minutes and that’s it. He was never in the 20 hit ups and 200 metres gained category with a couple of off loads thrown in. Never has been never will be.

He averaged 150m a game or thereabouts from the bench in 2017. His final season average was 130m... but that was much lower before he became a benchie.

He's capable of it. But he hasnt ran a ball like that since early 2018. He used to wind up and run into the defensive line at pace. Now he jogs up. Making less metres both before the line and after contact. He's zero threat of breaking the line either.

If he doesnt find that kamikaze running style again he's never going to be effective

I think if Tamou keeps his form then RCG doesn't need to pull huge numbers. But at least has to have a dig and lead the defensive line. His aggression was a great asset.

On the reverse side, are we paying him just to do that? On good coin from what I hear.

Yep I have heard the same. Cleary in a few seasons will be playing at his price tag... Same can't be said for RCG

There was no greater sight than him running a dropout back... Now it is a mere jog

Merrin rightly copped it last year but figures showed he was our best prop. Time others lift

He was for middle forwards.
Going off NRL stats last year.
Metres averaged were
RCG 97
Fish 92
CHN 65
Hetherington 61
Kikau 129
Leota 56
Merrin 101
Tamou 93
Yeo 111 did shift to the middle later in games.

We were about 7th last year as a team on metre averages.

We really need our middle to grind out more metres. You want at least 2 of your middle averaging well over 100 metres per game. We only had Merrin at 101. Take out RCG's broken jaw game and he just averages over the ton.

When I look at the other clubs that had a successful season they had at least one middle forward averaging over 120 and another player over the 100 last year.
Some of the below had 3 players averaging over the 100 in the middle.

Numbers below are only for middle forwards.
Roosters JWH 116, SST 133, Tetevano average 97 from the bench!
Storm J Bromwich 120, Nas 96, Finucane 106
Souths, Surgess 147, Turgess 115, Gurgess 102
Sharks Fifita 135, Gal 138, Prior 100,
Dragons JDB 110, Vaughan 126, Graham 92 Ah mau from the bench 111.
Broncos Lodge 129, Mcguire 116, Ofahengaue 117. TPJ 106 from middle and edge.

Some of the above not only are quite physical in strength they also know how to grind out the metres and draw in extra defenders to be tackled. I don't feel we have that in our middle forward. Not consistantly.

Tamou is coming to the end of his career but RCG, Fish and Leota (if he starts) need to lift their intensity to grind out more metres and be a recurring problem for the opposition defence. I rate Fish and I know Leota will improve but I am worried about RCG.
The younger players under them are still coming through and are not ready to be starters who can perform week to week over 25 rounds.
Either the the players we have in the middle lift or we go to market again for another prop that can bash out the hard yards. I realise our squad this year is pretty much settled.
We can't keep letting our edge players like Kikau, Yeo and the backs picking up the slack.

Compared to other packs last year our middle meterage sucked.
No wonder we were linked to Ah mau last year.

Tamou has never been a huge metre gainer. Defence is his strength. Leota was getting limited minutes but again he is a defender.

Them and Sele are good at keeping it tight. No reason RCG can't get 150m or so a game

Catch his game tonight? That's what we signed him for.

Fox reported him over 170m gained. Nrl.com has him at 148m gained. That was a vintage bench performance from RCG either way

Im starting to really think why on earth we signed dean whare to a 5yr deal his defence is shaky and his hands and attack is woeful.I hope brandon mcgrady comes back strong from injury and takes whares spot big strong fast centre from qld cup whare hasn't been the same since his knee injuries.

Disagree his defense is great, overlaps are the result of the guys inside him like Jimmy and he comes up and jams when that happens which is pretty much the best thing you can do in that situation.
