I know plenty of people have been saying it, but now I’ll take my turn.

Surely now with these injuries it’s time to promote some young guns and give them some NRL experience.
Too and Billy Burns would be my preference.

We are a little restricted prior to June 30 on who we can or can't use.

I think the club should've put more youth in the squad spots 26-30. For example, promote Burns or Blore into the 30 instead of signing Winterstein.

I think Winterstein was an important signing. He’ll be most helpful over the next 6 weeks.

Funnily enough, Manly fans did not seem cut-up about losing him.

Manly's second row depth wasn't that crash hot. The fact he wasn't going to make their team was concerning.

Waddell is going great for them too. Which I am happy to see. Wasn't a superstar in his age group coming through but has worked extremely hard to get where he is.

You do understand how the top 30 system works? You cannot use players outside the main squad unless you don't have anyone in the main squad who can play that position.

Winterstein and Fuimaono are not first grade standard players. They were both terrible signings. Wasting top 30 spots on duds like these and losing talented youngsters.

So Players that are out for the season can’t be replaced in the 30?

look at the signings we made. Cheap low risk and are gone next year.

Rather guys like Winterstein, Sele and co than RCG and Whare's deals atm

Should be like that. Like in NFL or NHL and injured reserve list.

It can be done. Like this week for example 4 backrowers out. Fuimaono has been playing centre so the argument to play a non top 30 player is there

I clearly don’t understand, I thought if you lost a player in your top 30, you could replace him with either a promoted lower grade player or sign a new player?

So, if Souths for instance, were to now sign Jimmy the Jet, he couldn’t play unless all of their centres were injured??

Inglis retired so they have a spot. Phillips left us so we have a spot.

Injuries are different. We can't sign a 31 and 32 player for Yeo and Cartwright.

Come June 30 those in our development squad can play. Until then someone can play on a game by game basis as needed.

This week for example. It should be allowed given who is out but approval is needed by NRL

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. If we bank on our juniors and don't sign from elsewhere, people will complain that we are too hung up on them. At the end of the day, you'd have to think they were signed with the best intentions after factoring in cap, gaps in roster, player market, etc.

I don't understand the point of these rules at all. If they are contracted to us somewhere in our system, why can't they play? Wages are then included in the salary cap for those games. If their salary is less than Nrl minimum wage (which it might be if they are in Flegg or such like) then include the pro rata minimum wage in the cap. Simple. This top 30, development player crap is baffling.

Yeah lets let go of guys with potential to sign other teams rejects... and not because they were on the outer with coaches. But because they weren't good enough.

Im sure fans would be terribly upset if we gave Sivo and Waddell a top 30 spot ahead of these guys.

Winterstein is a 32 year old second rower who averages 30 metres per game. Clint Newton and Cam Ciraldo offered more than him ffs. There's no point throwing money or top 30 spots at players who aren't better than what you already have. Its like we filled our roster with them because no one else wanted them.

Hindsight's a good thing, isn't it! We did extend some "guys with potential" - Edwards, Katoa, RCG. Bad luck, they haven't kicked on as well as it was hoped. Good on Sivo and Waddell but if they hadn't shown such strong form would you still be as disappointed? We let go of Christian Crichton too, nobody seems to be complaining about him. But if he was starring for the Bulldogs first grade, I'm sure we would be crying foul here for letting him go..
All I'm trying to say is we rolled our dice with certain players and to our misfortune, it has backfired.

Mate we didnt need hindsight to know Winterstein and Fuimaono sucked. We need only look at their form for their previous clubs.

what is they turned out to be decent? They are gone after this season, Unlike RCG who still has years left to stink it up.
