so now the inconvenience of round 12 is over - did it even happen? - it's all about origin 1 baby!
the trend has been for stability in combinations prior to last series (QLD rarely changed and Daley got sucked into the pick and stick with wrong players) but there's a bit of change for all combinations for this one since last series.
QLD right to left
Gagai - Chambers - DCE - Gillett --- (Ponga) --- Kaufusi - Munster - Morgan - Oates
vs
Ado-Carr - Mitchell - Walker - Cordner --- (Tedesco) --- Frizell/Crichton - Cleary - Morris - Cotric
NSW left to right
Middles (as listed)
QLD: Arrow - Papallii - McGuire - Hunt -> Rotation: Napa - Ofahengaue - Fifita - (Mbye)
NSW: Klemmer - Vaughan - Trbojevic - Cook -> Rotation: Frizell - Haas - Murray - (Wighton)
As usual, NSW seem to have the edge on paper in the middles and rotation.
Morgan in the centres is a risk but he's more than capable of handling it. If anything, QLD may have NSW on that side, even though both Kaufusi & Morgan are out of regular club position. Watch Ponga has he loves chiming in down his teams' left side too.
Walker and Mitchell will be a handful down the other edge if the NSW middles can get a roll on and these two gel well with Teddy filling in too.
Cook will be the difference. We haven't seen an acting half with his acceleration. A prototype for new #9s in the future.
Once again, the attraction of this match is the uncertainty. New players and combinations. Looking forward to it.
