Yes that’s correct, left off contract are Sao who is off to Super League I believe, Asyhford, Soosemea and Perham, who the club have an option on for next year, I believe they’ll take this up, plus Luke of course.

I concur, I reckon they’ll option Perham and cut the others loose, though I can see them offering Luke another year given Roache’s ongoing injury issues.

Of all the current players that we've lost, CNK is obviously the best player. The Raiders have been a blessing to him and their fans love the 100% effort he puts in every game. I hope he never gets complacent.

Yep, I think letting him go was the right move though. He’d either be stuck behind RTS or Ken or sitting on the other wing like Fus being under-utilised. He’s too good to play second fiddle in one of the few areas we’re pretty stacked (hard running outside backs). Good on him for finding an opportunity to shine.

We had Kata playing first grade, and CNK plays centre.

No, it wasn't the right move. It was a very bad mistake, characteristic of this club and the mismanagement of players and the general roster that happens here.

Had. We don’t have Kata any more.

Was CNK ever really a front runner for centre though?

He should have been - came to the club as a centre, played his first year in NSW cup as a centre and it was our weakest position in first grade. Simple lack of joined-up thinking meant he then was pigeonholed as a back three player and never looked at, despite having the ability to do the job.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/leagu...nz-bears-fruit-as-club-signs-son-of-all-black

The Warriors have a son of a former All Black on their books after securing the services of highly-rated youngster Rocco Berry.

Berry's father, Marty Berry, made 10 appearances for the All Blacks between 1986 and 1993, including one test match against Australia.

Marty enjoyed a distinguished provincial career as a midfield back, playing exactly 100 games for Wairarapa-Bush and Wellington, as well as spending a season in Super Rugby with the Hurricanes in 1996.

Having followed in his father's footsteps in union, Rocco has made a name for himself as a skillful fullback, starring for Wellington college St Pats Silverstream at 1st XV level and last year was selected to attend the Hurricanes under-18 training camp.
But the 18-year-old is now eying a future in the 13-man game with the Warriors fending off strong interest from rival clubs in both codes to sign him to a four-year contract.

"He's got some really good attributes on and off the field, you've only got to talk to him for five minutes to know he's been raised in a very good environment," Warriors chief executive Cameron George told Stuff.

"It's very exciting we've been able to secure a son of an All Black into our league family. We do know that he was heavily chased by a number of rugby league and rugby clubs and to get his signature is certainly a massive privilege for our club."

With the Warriors playing Cronulla in Wellington last week, the Auckland club took the opportunity to give Berry the full first grade experience.

Berry trained with Stephen Kearney's squad all week, stayed at the team hotel and even took part in the pre-game warm-up at Westpac Stadium and recovery session the next day.

"It's all part of bringing some of our young kids closer to the inner sanctum and the experience of being an NRL player," George said.
Faced with intense competition from Australian NRL clubs, there's been countless examples over the years of the country's leading youngsters being lured across the Tasman.

But led by general manager of football Brian Smith and recruitment manager Peter O'Sullivan, the Warriors have restructured their development pathways over the last 12 months to identify and recruit players nation wide.

"The re-setting of our pathways now is really showing the young kids New Zealand-wide there's a great way here to be part of the NRL and you don't have to go to Australia," he said.

"Whether you're a rugby union kid playing the game or rugby league, there's opportunities here at the Warriors."

I saw an article about Joe Vagana a little while back and vaguely remember it mentioning what his kids were doing, think they were younger though

Any Aussies want to come and play for the club that's well known and constantly proving to be the graveyard for league players? Nobody?

Forget asking top Aussie players. We'll only get them when they're old.

Old isn’t the end of the world. Campion, Price and Wiki were all old...

Wikis a kiwi.

Campion, Price and even Blake Green is good. We've tried the paying of big bucks to Aussies who are coming here for a nice retirement pay check and we have no premierships from that. I agree it wouldn't be the end of the world as some of them would be better than our current crop. The thing is - the Aussies won't come here because; we suck, we have a history of making players look average and because we're a New Zealand team.

We can only hope that the rejects we get turns into a James Maloney story and even then he will leave us ASAP.

Yes... but I am not completely buying the Aussie v Kiwi thing - what we want is players that have learned the game in Australia... and are proven winners...

If you want to discuss criminal retirement gigs, Blair is #1 - he's been f**king useless since he left Melbourne - worse than wee Todd Lowrie

We're getting second rate Kiwis too - Hiku, Beale, Blair, even Ah Mau...

RTS and Tohu are elite, and maybe we don't get elite Aussies - but surely we can do better than 3/4 above, Ah Mau is the only first grader among them, but he's a useful part of a rotation, not J Bromwich or David Klemmer

We can't even keep Kiwis.

Satae granted release from contract

The Vodafone Warriors have today agreed to grant prop Chris Satae an immediate release from his contract to continue his career in the English Super League.

The 26-year-old Satae, who has made 15 NRL appearances for the Vodafone Warriors since his debut in 2017, has been a regular for the club’s Canterbury Cup NSW side over the last three seasons.

“We’ve reluctantly agreed to Chris’ request for an early release,” said Vodafone Warriors general manager football Brian Smith.

“He was contracted until 2021 but he has received an opportunity in England for the rest of this season and then another four years. It gives Chris and his family tremendous security and we wouldn’t want to stand in his way.

“He has been really impressive for our Canterbury Cup side but has had limited chances to play for the NRL side due to the competition for places.

“We’re really happy for Chris, we thank him for everything he has done for the club and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Satae finishes with 47 appearances for the Vodafone Warriors in the Canterbury Cup, the last of them in the 30-22 win over Wentworthville on July 27. He has been a key performer in the team’s run of good form in recent weeks averaging well in excess of 200 metres in his last four games and more than 170 metres in his 14 Canterbury Cup appearances this season.
