This is such a disingenuous comment. Highlighting a club who has a one (maybe two) season temporary move and the difficulties the club and fans would be facing in managing that isn't a fair comment and you know it.

it’s a fair comment if the club are stuffing it up

got nothing to do with the move, people are ringing the club membership line getting an answer machine with please hold then a message bank full message. And a myriad of other basic issues. We know sharks cut a load of staff last year, any bets the membership team was one of the areas culled?

they’re you go again, I showed the massive difference with the comment of what can be achieved when you try. Fan engagement, cheap jnr memberships, decent marketing and membership departments, quality stadiums, game day experience, engagement of kids at school, the list goes on why the afl membership puts ours to shame.

Believe it or not afl and nrl are played beyond just Melbourne and Sydney. Whilst Sydney is undoubtedly a worse city than Melbourne in terms of poorer transport, sports facilities and general apathy to sport than Melbourne how do we explain all the other cities? Why has Eagles got 3 times the membership of Broncos? Or Adelaide double Auckland? Or GWS more than Canberra?

if you want to see a key reason why jump on the sharks forum and read the experiences of fans trying to buy memberships, it’s farcical!

Despite claiming this is discussion that people here want to have, you will get railed for being too negative. The forum suffers from a very myopic mentality.

It happens across the board. My members pack is always stuffed. I have mates that are WT members and they are forever complaining at the poor service

great to hear and exactly how you do build them. Penrith always seemed an enigma in massive amount of kids playing the game in the region and massive league club membership but not translating to panthers support. The push to connect with the western regional towns is also a good move. Just need to improve stadium facilities next.
If the Liberals stay committed to building an outer western Sydney stadium it will be in Penrith. Only Campbelltown and Liverpool can challenge Penrith for it but Liverpool has no teams and Campbelltown only gets three tigers games a year and an unproven a-league team from a financially unstable competition that is against playing in 20k+ stadiums anyway. Only Penrith will provide an established club’s games all season long.

It would be interesting to see how much a new stadium would boost Penrith’s numbers.

Why would the government invest in a stadium out in Penrith that would service one team?
In Liverpool, it would be between Bankstown and Campbelltown, making it a good option for those two teams. It would also be a quick travel option for away fans from St George, Sutherland, etc.

And build it where?

If a new Outer Western was built perfect spot is out around the airport. Technically is Liverpool council but closer to Penrith or Campbelltown

penrith LC seem to be doing a fair bit of property development. Would it be possible to rebuild the current stadium bit at a time? Maybe incorporate other functions into new stands? Can’t see a new govt stadium unless you have 2-3 tennants and even then given the backlash it’s unlikely we’ll see any new stadium spend for quite some time I’d think?

Not where the ground sits now. The last renovations were going to include a grandstand on the hill and a Grandstand into the cricket ground like a smaller Headingley but the plumbing underneath didn't allow for it.

A new block of land is ready but won't happen right in Penrith the best bet would be in all that development out near the airport

Are you thinking Penrith will move their ground?

Does anyone know, if an NRL team was to move to Gosford, or Dragons to commit more of their games to Wollongong and also boost their crowds
Is there any capacity for either of these stadiums to increase their capacity to 25,000 seated? Preferably without affecting the awesome water views of either.

Both have a record attendance of roughly 20k although the capacity at Wollongong is listed at 23k.

I think one end of the grounds, maybe but is it worth it?

I'd like to think that one day some clubs other than Brisbane can plan for having a higher than 13,000 average

Yes but they need to create the desire within the fans to get off their butts and go to the grounds

as I said earlier on this thread, slugging families a $1000 bucks to go to games won’t cut it

And when games start getting broadcast in 4K definition, the bigger screens at home become even more appealing than they already are.

Its a problem that needs a bit more thought than the old chook raffle days and getting a bumper sticker for your membership
