Gotta admit from someone who isn't a Panthers die hard who spend all their time going over the club/team like us here this would be how it's viewed.

On one hand say we underachieved...Yet criticise a signing we made to improve the team?

Say Gus developed the team for 8 years... A team which has one nothing again then say the decision to make changes is wrong. Again makes no sense

It does seem strange to fire a seemingly successful coach and then not take the best possible candidate available.

I agree about Api and thought even casuals would notice the benefit gained. Even if Egan is the future we can actually spend time developing him properly instead of this weird need to rush everything we usually have.

So much this... I think there's a few of our guys that would've looked better if they'd been developed without the rush

People know I don't like Ivan.. But no guarantee anyone else goes better this year...future years absolutely we will be worse off.

That is the best thing about signing Api. It will allow Egan and Kenny to develop at their own pace... Nothing wrong with guys tearing up NSW Cup asking to be picked

I think that is what most sensible people think.
A good experienced signing for the spine and helps us in an area we have struggled most of the year with.
Crawley who is agenda driven is to stupid to see this.
I am glad I don't watch NRL 360 anymore I tire of his and Kent's querulous agenda driven behaviour.

All he's really said that's controversial is about Egan & tbh everyone seems to have a different opinion on how good Egan is or can be. Everything else is sadly spot on.

The absolute stupidity of the club to fire a coach for under performing with a squad apparently good enough to win a comp, only to hire a coach that doesn't think the squad is anywhere good enough & totally rebuilds it anyway. It's just mind boggling.

I know I've said this before but surely the first question to a coach should of been - do you think you can take this squad (with minor adjustments) to a premiership?

The fact is in 5 minutes with minimal effort I found examples of Cleary doing what the people here said he's incapable of. Then the argument shifted and made me chase those goal posts for a while.

If Maloney needed surgery he shouldn't have played. That's not tough that's getting in the way.
Not tough! It's up to the coach to not pick players when their performance is hindered by injury, not the player to exclude himself.

You're right. I'm not sure what the process is. Especially with a veteran like Maloney. At a guess I'd say they'd ask him.

Who said the coach should of done better? The guy that created the roster...fresh eyes where needed

Crawley's off his rocker if he though most Panthers fans were thinking making the GF before the season started. Losing Merrin, Peach and CHN and replacing them with bums. Our roster is weaker than last year.

Under Ivan I was thinking top 6 was a realistic goal.

Under Ivan I was thinking top 6.

We were 5th. Lost 4 guys from that finals team... Replaced with depth players. No way it was going to go that far. Still should of done better

I infact prefer Ivan Cleary over Hook,
Yes we generally sucked this year, but if you remember last year(the whole year)
We gave away starts, only to finish strong, and maybe win the game, ONLY when the opposition got tired, we were way too reliant in hail mary plays, and only efforts in clutch moments, INSTEAD of actually training the team to work as a unit in proper defence, what Ivan did at wests tigers last year, was grind most of the top teams out of the game for whole 80mins, mind you he didn't have the cattle to take them to the finals, but now the tigers have a core roster of good players, plus benji magic.
Our side was never going to threaten the comp this year, not if we played the same get out of jail cards this year, it has the built off defence, which honestly we weren't good at, im not saying we are good at it now either, but we have to be next year, whilst converting all the missed opportunities we've constantly bombed this season.

Quite honestly Our backs were atrocious, im not surprised Waqa and DWZ were let go, its best that we started fresh with a young squad, and build a team from scratch, not hope on the brilliance of deadwood from hooks lack of coaching/guidance.

I would hope trent barrett will impove our attack next season, but our defence is our real issue, we need nigel plum type performances from the whole team.

The other issue is all the media hype on how we failed this year, under ivan. when you got guys like paul green, and paul mcgregor with a top 8 roster, underperforming tremendously,
Des hasler, Wayne Bennett, and Michael Mcguire, basically walking into their new club rosters full of stars,
Dean pay getting it together, but only now after he has had over a year to galvanize the dogs squad, but ivan has only had this very year to get us humming, media must be off its head to think we were top4 from the start of season off the back of our defence last year
