Aekins deserves a chance at it.

One door closes, another opens.

We all know it will be Whare.

Dean Whare at fullback is TERRIBLE rather put Luai there if we are desperate

Was only joking. Though only Ivan Cleary and Phil Gould have picked him there. Not sure what they see at training.

I think its gonna be Naden. Might see him play some fullback this weekend.

Aekins/Edwards
Mansour
Naden
Whare
To’o
Luai
Cleary

Doesn’t get top 4 or premiership

This injury opens up a chance to try something different... Can always have that as the fallback

I'm sorry But says who. Would have the 2003 team (before a ball was kicked) looked no more than a premiership team that what you've quoted. They had run either 12th in 2002

Amazing things can happen when teams work hard for each, believe in each other, and leave their egos at the door.

The 2003 changed from Round 1 to GF day though. Chris Hicks and Shane Elford were the wingers. We don’t win the comp with that backline either.

As I said elsewhere lots of similarites between now and then. Needing to get mix up the backline is one

Our round 1 lineup in 2003:

Fullback 1. Rhys Wesser
Wing 2. Preston Campbell
Centre 3. Luke Lewis
Centre 4. Paul Whatuira
Wing 5. Luke Rooney
Five-Eighth 6. Ryan Girdler
Halfback 7. Craig Gower (c)

Preston lul.

This was round 1 2002 (A team that got beaten 64-6 by the eels...worst day as a fan)

Fullback 1. Rhys Wesser
Wing 2. Luke Lewis
Centre 3. Shane Elford
Centre 4. Chris Hicks
Wing 5. Luke Rooney

Preston on the wing :joy::joy:

Still a lot of change to get to the top. Hopefully Ivan pulls a rabbit or 2 out of his hat for this year

Complete hypothetical.

Souths were sniffing around one of our forwards a couple of weeks ago. Some say Ellis others say Hetherington.
Would it be worth our while swapping one of those for an Alex Johnson? He is not in Souths top 5 this year.

Johnson could play fullback till Edwards is ready to take it off him or until Laurie is ready, then Johnson could shift to the wing.
Mansour hasn't got much left in him.
It would give us experience, a real tryscorer and some much needed pace in the backline.
Thoughts?

It would solve some roster issues for sure. I don't see a lot of downsides, just have to pick the right forward to send them.

For Ellis yes.
For Hetherington no.

Not sure what others see in Aekins. I don't watch a lot of the lower grades but he was pretty underwhelming in FG. Should obviously be given a shot in the trials but Crichton, Naden and Burton should be right there alongside him.

Really unfortunate for Edwards. Hopefully this injury doesn't knock the wind out of him mentally like the last one did.

I reckon Aekins has been pretty good when given a shot. Can't see any reason why it wouldn't be a straight swap.

If not him then Luai for me. Gets Burton in 6 & gives us another ball playing option.
