It was reckless at least. He hit him square in the head and he knew it on the night it was bad. He's taken to social media about it issuing an apology -

Yes Hughes was slightly crouched, but even had he been completely upright he still would have been hit in the head.
Highest possible charge without having to prove intent. 7 years incident free. Remarkable that a bloke can make such a bad tackle after 7 years incident free, just goes to show how these things are sometimes outside the player's control. Three games with the early plea seems fair.

If Jack Hetherington had made this tackle and received this charge he'd be looking at 13 weeks with an early guilty plea. Off topic but the way priors are treated needs looking at.

What was wrong with the tackle can't blame Corey for being taller and bigger than Hughes....accidents happen.

the result was ugly but I think the suspension is harsh. Went in for a big hit and got it wrong on a player that runs low to the ground. Strange that Hodgsons repeated high shot drew no scrutiny, seemed more intent in those hits than the CHN one.
He is facing the same punishment as Crighton which is ludicrous.

I’ve got no issue with the charge
Feels about right

unfortunately the margins are thin and the cost of getting it wrong are significant

Outsider with no skin in the game, unless we’re counting SuperCoach and I’ll benefit of not having his low scores as an auto emergency...

Bit on the harsh side I reckon, yes it got him high, and hard etc. he had him lined up and was committed before Hughes did an accidental Tedesco. 300 points before priors imo.

Yep

I'm biased but don't believe there was much malice in it. Hughes was slipping. However CHN did load up for a big hit and got it wrong.

The grading feels a bit harsh but he did hit Hughes hard. Tough one for the judiciary. The outcome of 3 weeks is about right though.

I do agree it was pretty reckless which is the worst aspect. He really loaded up. I'd feel it was unfair if he had to wear the entire 6 weeks though maybe ?

Priors are treated too harshly, especially in the current environment when we're seeing 20+ charges every round. Also 200 points for a grade 1 crusher is far too much. It's no worse than a grade 1 careless high tackle.

The thing it incidents like this is that when you aim high when making a tackle, the margin of error is very low, so any mistake can have bad consequences. That is why the onus is on the tackler as they make the decision on where they are trying to initiate contact in the tackle.

I mean do people think past players like John Raper, Ron Coote, Barry Reilly, Ray Price, David Gillespie, Ian Roberts, Trevor Gillmeister (to name a few) made their reputations as great defensive players by making head high tackles?

As I said I thought it looked bad, and to me was a text book reckless high tackle.

I agree priors are too harsh, and I think Crichton’s was not a crusher. But 200 for a grade one crusher seems about right to me, and the fact that the tackle CHN did was 3x worse than this seems fair.

specifically for CHN, a 7 year clean skin record is amazing in today’s game for someone that plays in the forwards. Deserving of a big discount.

Splitting hairs but I think it'd be 11 weeks (600 x 250%, 1500pts then 25% for early plea down to 1125pts, only has 25 carryovers). Still insane levels though 😂

About time we had a win with the mrc.

I feel a bit sorry for Radley. 3-4 weeks is a bit harsh. The joys of priors coming back to bite I guess.

Lol that explanation for cleary not getting charged is absolutely despicable and border line corruption.

Yep

The fact that they felt the need to come out and clarify why they hadn’t charged him says it all

Adam Doueihi got suspended for an absolutely identical tackle on Mika Sivo. Sivo came to him and he just braced, didn’t take a step towards him at all.

Like I said, rules for some
