It a strange one to get worked up about. Far from being ugly, it stops people from driving into the kicker, which is something that the NRL is keen for anyway.

If you are looking for something currently legal to be outlawed, I think there would be lots of other tactics that the NRL looks at before this one.

If the defender is offside then obviously that is the first offense before the obstruction.

It’s not really. Because a shepherd is illegal and standing in the ruck is legal.

My point is if you want to get the league to change the rule such that standing there is illegal, I think you will be waiting a long time because it is a practice that assists the skill players and protects them from injury.

Until then, we will all just have to learn to play with this little inconvenience called the rules.
