Nth Qld V Parra / Canberra
Townsville
sellout in hours this one .... will they erect the extra seating like they did for the origin last year & get the capacity up to 27500?

Penrith V Sharks / Roosters / Souths
Accor
Maybe 45 to 50K for any of those match ups

week 2
Friday
Parra V Canberra
Commbank ... sellout

Sat
Sharks V Roosters / Souths
where are we playing this one guys ?
I think it should be Allianz , 35K min & might push another sellout ( 3 in a row)
But I'd understand if the Sharks wanted it at Accor instead

I don't think we have the Prelim at Accor if it is v Souffs

Maybe I'm misremembering, but I thought the Raiders got an exemption to host it in 2019 but Bruce technically still isn't eligible to host prelims. In other words they were allowed to host it as a one off, but still aren't eligible to host future prelims, and would need to seek another exemption to host another.

BTW, I'm from Canberra, support the Raiders, and even IMO Canberra shouldn't be allowed to host prelims.

Bruce doesn't meet the minimum standards and arbitrarily lowering those standards sets a bad precedent that will, and has, lead to negative outcomes for the league and sport as a whole. Furthermore, the ACT government should not be rewarded with big events, and the tourism they draw, when they refuse to invest in a stadium that meets those standards.

Even if it is permanent or it is not, you raise a very prescient point about the quality of the ground and the ACT government.

Yeah, they only pulled 90k.

I wonder how many of that 90k may have come and watched the Storm if it had started earlier?

Ding ding we have a winner. Like seriously how stupid is our sport sometimes. Should have been played today or as you said Saturday afternoon when there is free air

It has nothing to do with Penrith. I just don't think it is right for teams to have home PFs.
Home week 1, home city week 2, neutral venues Week 3.
Even the revered FA Cup has both semis played at Wembley.

Right so Brisbane finish 1st, win week 1 and then get to host the prelim. Where does it get played?

The FA Cup has a random draw for each match.

Teams don't enter the FA Cup tournament after they've been seeded in a 25 match regular season.

One of your fellow supporters said your mob will play anywhere, anytime.

Where then? Parra? There's an argument Souths would have an advantage at SFS too considering they would have seen the joint a couple times.

There are ways of reducing the advantage for Souths at Stadium Australia, such as not giving them their normal home sheds, and selling different seats to their season ticket holders and fans, giving Penrith supporters better positions.

Anyway, I'd say the chances of Souths getting to a prelim are the smallest of all the clubs remaining. They still need to win 2 matches to get there, they're an inconsistent team, and up against a hot opponent today.

Would've caused issues scheduling semi final week.

NRL need to have a flexible final week of the season so a known top 4 team like Cronulla aren't scheduled on a Sunday in their final match of the season.

It's absolutely phenomenal that a club was able to pull this crowd figure against an out of town team that has little to no fans in Melbourne. The Collingwood Army is something else. And the noise! The Fremantle coach admitted that his side just couldn't handle the vocal one-sided atmosphere in the MCG yesterday.

Not even the Broncos would sell out a smaller Lang Park against a Sydney team in a Week 2 semi.

I'd prefer Allianz given it is likely Sharks, I don't see Accor being full enough for that soulless Stadium to have any atmosphere

That is it week 1 schedules have a flow on affect,
But it is only a single Melb AFL playing so filling AAMI shouldn't of been an issue

I'd say that Cronulla's match yesterday would've been absolutely deflating mentally, and exhausting physically. They get an extra day recovery on today's winner, but Fitzy and his team are going to need all their coaching and preparation skills to get them up next week. It helps to have guys like Finucane, Hynes, to drive it from a players point of view.

And it's a prelim. This is the problem with our sport. Penrith and Cronulla combined surely have enough supporters to fill Stadium Australia. If they loved the club and the game enough, they and supporters of other clubs if their team made a final, would get out to any venue in the metropolitan and fill it up - not merely because it's close to home or currently shiny and new.

Rugby League is an event and convenient time filler rather than a game supporters live and breathe.

That’s probably why you would all of your games on a Friday and Saturday so everybody would have at least a 6-7 day turnaround or you have a week off prior to the finals so this is no longer an issue for any team

Hmmm
Sydney v sydney team 21k
