We're not talking about home and away attendances. We're talking about finals attendances, and while Sydney's look trash on paper, they were held back. Melbourne's wasn't (based on their own bleating in previous weeks).

Plus the 3rd final in Sydney is a 40k sell out. So 3 Sydney finals all sell outs which kind of proves your point.

Obviously. Melbourne have the worst kind of bandwagoners. The ones that don't even show up to games. WE HAVE 40,000 MeMbErs and a 66% winning record, but no one wants to watch us live.

Ridiculous point PR. Parra v Penrith would have drawn 50-60k and Cronulla v Cowboys probably 25k+ at Allianz. Those crowds were due to stadiums, not support.

Melbournes pathetic finals crowd was due to their, well, pathetic support.

Could of, should of, might have. The reason games weren’t moved is because the nrl didn’t think it could justify it because people might not turn up in big enough numbers to make it worthwhile. I don't know why you Melbourne fans are so triggered haha - these cries of "oH sO WE aRe ThE ProBLem" are cringe. I've never said that, all I am saying is that last nights crowd was crap. Melbourne be shoving this fairy tale that it is the "sporting capital of the world" down our throat so hard that it comes out the other end clean.

Melbourne made their bed by boasting about their membership numbers, faking a sellout, and then drawing a shit finals crowd. Just laugh about it and move on. They are booted from the finals, and core fans from the other clubs will ensure that the rest of the finals games look great on the tele!

yeah i think they will. I actually think they would be better off setting up some tier'd steps at the northern end and just make it all standing room. Although you can't charge as much money so they may as well put seats in to cash in.

Will be awesome, QCB is so much louder than the old joint, the roofing over the 3 main stands just makes it sound like there's double the amount that's actually there.

Whoever we play up there in 2 weeks will get a nice reception........

It’s a bit down on expectations, I’d say Storm have about 25k active fans in melbourne. Where the missing 5k were only they could say. your general sports fan who may have been a casual attender isn’t going to rock up on the same night one of the biggest local clubs is playing in the main sports semi finals anymore than a casual sports fan in Sydney would go along to a gws finals game today when two Sydney heavyweights are doing battle.
Until the nrl starts to invest properly in Victoria and ch9 join the party there’s only so much Storm can do to grow interest in RL, and getting 20k fans to a finals game isnt the end of the world in an under developed growth market thats still relatively young compared to the heartlands.

Would it have been way too hard to simply schedule the storm game at 4pm, and hopefully entice some of the Collingwood fans (or just fans of "events") to watch both.

Maybe they should have played it at Suncorp? Most of the Storm's fans live in Brisbane anyway. Playing it right before a big AFL game is really stupid planning.

This was an issue for SFC vs WSW's A-League derbies at the old SFS. The FFA demanded that the unused claimed SCG members seats be sold off as GA, which they were, and which ensured virtual sellouts.
The NRL should do the same.
More fans missed out today because the elite couldn't be f**ked turning up.
