The Game 2022 Crowd Watch

It was used in Round 1 last year, and prior to that, not since the 2016 finals.

So once in the last six years.
The AFL has pulled back slightly from maximising crowds as their main priority. They is more emphasis now on how the games look on TV. They let the Swans move all games back to SCG despite some big Homebush crowds, and after only 23K for Rnd 1 this season, won't be doing that again. They would prefer 20K @ Showgrounds or 35K to SCG to a 1/4 or 1/2 full Accor.

Also, the Tas bid and Canberra were told a few years ago that they would need 27,500 stadiums if they got a team. Tas were OK with this, but the AFL is actually now insisting on smaller (23K, but with a roof), mainly for TV.

Also, the easiest way to increase demand is to reduce supply, so once you have a few sellouts, you can also increase ticket prices or memberships by paying at the right size venues.

So, unless they oppose strictly to disrupt the NRL (very possible), I can't see the AFL being too worried about losing ACCOR.

Are they actually for real lol? Roofed oval stadiums look like an aircraft hangar, like the Dreary Dome did for last nights yawnion game.

Funny how in Sydney the Nrl asks for taxpayer money and everyone's out for blood but the AFL does it and no one bats an eyelid...

TBF I think the only person out for blood was that fool in the bandana you have over there. Most people can see the benefits of having quality stadia in a city, especially if well used. Biggest push back I see in Sydney is the fact that most cities invest in one or two and Sydney sports want nine or ten.
NSW Govt has built 5 so far with a 6th proposed, and still they want more.

What are expectations for the PMXIII match at Suncorp?

Hoping it gets 30,000 at least..

Seems strange putting it on there after all that time in Port Moresby../

There were a few factors driving the decision, ranging from concerns over security, costs to facilitate to Fox and Nine always wanting more content.

I imagine it will be a one off in Australia, but it isn't the only AusAid sponsored sports event moved to Australia this year.

The fact that only such a small amount of the ground is on sale though makes me think the NRL is only expecting 5-10K

What’s going on at Commbank? Upper tier looks mostly empty.

The game was sold out. What were you talking about?
How about you wait until 20 minutes after kick off before making these comments?
There were thousands still outside at that time and also so many people in the queues for food and drinks at that stage.
I was one of them. My seat would also have been empty. Yet, I was there.

It just always look like there's a lot of empty seats on camera. I think it's the lighting. When they kick for a conversion you can see the people but not in play, when they kick on the 5th tackle for example.

Giants have had over 100 million spent on them and nobody cared about hospital or schools then

At the game a lot of people are standing between the upper and lower stands as it has a great view, and if you have had a few to drink those steep stairs feel like you are climbing Everest

Last Parra v Penrith game, I saw some fat guy fall and spill a whole tray of drinks
Then a lady freak out because of the height

So those people are smart

So there were no seats left empty by members like at Allianz? The atmosphere looked good on TV
