So Seven will stand their ground- Foxtel won't up their bid. For example it's estimated that Foxtel payed $233 in the upcoming 23-24 side deal. AFL wi;ll be lucky to get $240m from Foxtel with Seven anywhere between $146m and $190m with a tens of millions of contra and padding. In 6 months time the NRL starts their over $400m contract-
The NRL is sitting pretty well.

Rowland goes on about fumbleball fans not being able to afford Foxtel and broadband being unreliable, yet I never saw her or anyone else from Labor speaking on behalf of fans of every other sports code who've had no choice but to subscribe to Foxtel or a streaming service to see their favourite sport. The audacity of this woman to put fumbleball fans ahead of every other sports fan is insulting and it's time we called her out for it. If we let Ms Rowland treat us like second class citizens then we cannot complain when fumbleball gets privileges not presented to us. I encourage everyone on here to contact Ms Rowland and let her know you're not happy with her belief that fumbleball fans are more important than everyone else and will let her know about it at the ballot box if she continues along this path.

Show me the contra story for the NRL, OR is it your calculation.
Current contra is $24.5mill. nine have announced they're paying $5mill contra a year more from 23-.
I’d be surprised if none of the skynz $12.4mill increase is increased contra given the statements made about “promoting the game” at time of signing deal. Contra in new deal will likely be somewhere between $30-35mill a year.

No, Nine said 5 mill, prob, $2m Sky and 8- 10m Fox.. so around 12 to 15m but then again it will be nothing what the AFL announce, it will be huge contra to pad out biggest? deal ever in the world.. Notice paramount paid Billions for the Champion league this week, why don't the AFL accept the $600 million, I just don't know why?

The fumbleball are going to need a deal worth $ 600m because from what I witnessed with the fumbleballw when I flicked over during half-time in tonight`s League game they are going to need every cent to prop that competition up.
Fumbleball house are already spending $26m on fumbleballw and with the women in their game demanding an equal length playing season, equal pay and conditions, from what I witnessed tonight, and it was god-awful, they`re creating for themselves one great big money pit. And there`s no back-tracking on things like this, that would be a PR catastrophe.
Confirms what I`ve always thought, fumbleball is a bad game for blokes, but mein-gott, it`s a shocker of a game for kids and women.

Love the little German at the end. Es gefällt mir sehr. Also I have never subjected myself to AFLW (male fumbleball is bad enough) but looking at the scores you’d think that it would awful enough. I remember seeing a score where one team kicked one goal in the whole match.

Nope, nine have said they are increasing their current $10mill to $15mill a year in the new deal. Skynz and fox were paying $14.5mill between them in the last deal. new contra amount is likely to sit around the $30mill, depending on how much of the nz increase is extra contra.

Last deal afl contra was $16mill a year.

Nine will pay $115 million per season for the game's free-to-air rights, with an additional $15 million in contra and other deals.

How much contra in the AFL contract in their much touted $473m p/a..... maybe ...$70m ?

I say noone here can accurately state a true comparison of the NRL & AFL deals.

And in reply you and others have simply regurgitated old media reports and made unsubstantiated claims.

When will you people admit you dont have the information to decide one way or another about the merits of any of the sports media deals ?
It was only around 1,100 posts ago but I did call it then. Callin it again now.

well not strictly true. We know that the NRl total deal is, we know what ch9 and Sky NZ are paying. We know what AFL deal is for 23+24. We can verify numbers for afl in their annual report and for contra amounts in NRL reports. Therefore there is some things we know, somethings we can make educated guesses on and something that are pure speculation.

I still don't understand why the NRL is so averse to overlapping games. With modern streaming you can watch games in split screen and it's actually better if one game's rubbish you can flip to the other one. Used to work with Viewer's Choice on Fox Super Saturday around 10 years ago no idea why it wouldn't work now.

I’m sure I read the afl would announce their tv deal this week gone, no games so made sense to make the announcement

I wonder if this will drag on well after Gill has taken his golden handshake so he can’t be blamed if it turns to shit

theres obviously no agreement between foxtel & 7

& this will affect the final amount hugely
fun times
Obviously the original bids were well below what the afl wanted and now they are trying to scramble and get more

if only paramount had really offered 600 million pa

wonder what creative accounting gill uses this time to polish that t”rd

Tassie demanding decision on club 19, I’m guessing it’s tied into the tv negotiations. Still can’t believe a state govt is willing to put up $10mill a year for ten years to fund a professional sports club!

And the fumbler fans are calling for blood if more crowds go behind a paywall. Some are already questioning their Dear Leader's decision to waste $200 million on failed expansion clubs in rugby league territory and not bring in Tasmania
