so the existing deal (2 years) gets rolled up into a 9 year deal @ 4.5b total = 500m per year?
Seems like that might be the case. They’ve achieved a much better deal than us either way.
The only negative for them is the length.

Nine years is a crazy amount of time to be locked away
terrible result

crazy
The AFL is still running an extensiuon for the next two years at 473m pa, and then seven years at 550m (according to News).
NRL deal still has years to run at "over 400m pa
I don't know, it's either:
- 7 years @ 4.5b = 642m per year (extension beginning 2025)
Or it's:
- 9 years rolled up @ 4.5b = 500m per year
why you would deal 2 years in advance on different terms to the next 2 years seems odd to me though. the devil is definitely in the detail!
Exactly.
I get people want to look on the bright side of things but best case scenario is their deal is nigh on $100 million dollars more per annum.
How people are saying that they have done a bad job. If their deal is bad our deal is disastrous
That is why I am holding fire, Plenty of ways to manipulate numbers. $4.5b looks huge but over 9 years isn't anything too major, especially with that including contra
Wait to see AFL are masters of spin
Maybe. I think we have done a bad deal and what worries me is that they had multiple bidders.
We never really had that competitive tension
What this has definitely shown though is that broadcasters want a major sport to anchor their programming to. Ironically we may have been disadvantaged by the fact that we did our deal first and several of the broadcasters were holding back to have a crack at the fumbleball.Maybe. I think we have done a bad deal and what worries me is that they had multiple bidders.

The biggest ever gap was $83mill and that was when the game was owned by news ltd. if this is bigger the arlc have some very serious questions to answer.
The gap in 23&24 is already going to be massive at $70mill each year, if it goes higher in 2025 it will be a cock up on a monumental level by vlandys. First time nrl has negotiated a deal without using a specialist consultancy firm to lead the negotiations. Looks telling.
Here is a credible account of the AFL 2023-2024 two year deal, taken from Big footy.. see below
printing $4.5 billion over seven years, your sure about that.Folks around here have been inventing their own narrative since the AFL rights negotiations started,
It's you
