I’d like to think so considering our deal will finish in 2028. My concern is V’Landys will rush in a new side or give even more concessions over Foxtel in order to chase more dollars ASAP to cover up their monumental stuff up.
He should just fess up and bow out gracefully, and take his hand puppet with him.

Lets get some fresh blood in to lead us to an 18th team and negotiations with a genuine open media rights tender starting in 2026/7. We are screwed for 23-28 so no point accepting anything else until we can go to open market with something much more appealing to Australian TV.

When they bring in 18th team what time slot will the extra game be? Will Sunday 6pm become permanent or will Monday make a return?
Monday throws up all sorts of turn around scheduling problems and hate from the fans. 6pm Sunday is the logical slot. And its perfect for Perth where we can have a 4pm KO.

Depends on who they bring in I guess.

If they bring in another Kiwi game that would probably sort 6pm Friday. If they bring in Perth it will probably be Sunday 6pm.

If they bring in something else like another Brisbane side maybe Monday night

100% agree. But we both can see the ego of the man. We’ll need the jaws of life to get him out of the seat

They had Thursday and Monday games in the same round in 2016 if I remember correctly. Then they brought in the dreaded 6pm Friday game which is the worst idea the NRL has come up with since the SL War.
yeh and everyone hated it! You get fatigue as one round rolls into another same week.

Maybe we should just bring back overlapping games then? AFL has them and it doesn't diminish the value of rights.

Friday 6pm rates poorly and Thursday night games were out-rated by MasterChef this year, casting doubt on the whole 'TV slot' concept.

I think if we get to 18-20 sides you are probably going to have to overlap some games.

Before Thursday came in they had the two Friday games at the same time. One for the Sydney market, and the other for Qld. The game that wasn't shown live was then shown in delay in the other market. If I remember correctly this set up was created at the end of the Super League war so more Queensland games could be shown on Nine. It was pretty archaic, especially as you couldn't see the other game live anywhere, but I still preferred it to Thursday.

Fox also used to have two Saturday night games at 7:30pm with the red button viewers choice feature. The NRL correctly decided to scrap this and bring back 3:30pm Saturday.

Sunday 6pm would obviously be much better than Friday 6pm but still gives off graveyard slot vibes. Maybe they should just bite the bullet and have overlapping Sunday afternoon games at 2pm. Or have games on Fox starting at 2 and 4pm, and a Nine game starting at 3pm, with a post match show rather than cutting straight to news.

But do advertisers see value in another NZ side? That’s the big thing

The re-negotiation for the Dolphins was a joke. Do you seriously what V’Landys to be re-negotiating a contract with Pay/Nine. If we add another side in the midst of this contract it would be the dumbest thing ever. They will give us a ridiculously small increase because the contract can’t be broken - simple power dynamic.
I get where you are coming from but yes I’m ok with vlandys doing the next deal

tbh as long as he’s adding teams and doing other good things if he end up 50 million less than the afl I wouldn’t care one bit

im worried he goes and we go back to leaders who are scared to do anything

Ch9 brought in two 7.40pm Fri games in 2005. The contract was signed by Gallop and a year later AwFuL signed a mega deal that made a mockery of it.

They don't have the ridiculous 6pm Friday games though. Best case scenario move Friday 6pm to Sunday 6pm and bring in Monday 7pm for team 18. Bring forward Thursday and Friday kickoff to 7:30pm. For team 20 it would have to overlap somewhere (either Saturday night or Sunday afternoon).

Monday night will get the most dollars out of foxtel

My concern with that would be trying to get aligned if we are going to have Monday and Thursday.

If I recall correctly, the problem with Monday games was that the teams that played that night were often the cannon fodder the next week

If it were within 10% of fumbleball’s deal then I’d be satisfied. How are we going to get there is the problem

They were but if we want a big tv deal we’re going to have to make concession

fox would love mnf on top of Friday 6 pm slot
