What the AFL just did to us is why Perth should be next! Along with the fact its a no brainer. Population, Govt support, investors waiting, fanbase here, jnrs started, stadium ready.
If we dont address the differences between the codes we wont close what is now a revenue gap the size of the grand canyon! Australian metro reach has to become our new priority.
Nailed it. Next expansion club has to be Perth not NZ2 or Brisbane 3.

Grant is the one who caved in to the clubs demands.
It was reported he had "caved" in thus creating the perception he had he was trying to keep them at bay because they were destabilising things with their selfish sort sighted demands. He was creating competition for news ltd with the digital arm to drive up the value for the game. Isnt itindependence what we wanted?

Fact is if the AFL deal was less than yours you’d be all screaming from the rooftops, firecrackers launching into the air, girls being kissed on the street and still paper headlines of ‘We Won’!! Effigies of V’L being marched down city streets.

Amazing isn’t it, fact is you probably got more than you wanted, but someone got more and you can’t handle it, can’t comprehend it, how could this happen!!! It’s only ever happened every single time over the last 30+ years, but next time, next time you guys will show us lol.

Stop playing the f**king victim, maybe try actually supporting your club and your game like AFL fans do.
Get a life champ.

If it were within 10% of fumbleball’s deal then I’d be satisfied. How are we going to get there is the problem

When we get exact figures for both we can have a discussion as to how to make up the difference. Though a few points

A few things that stand out, Not having NRLW as curtain raisers. Have it as a stand alone product

If that is stand alone, That allows NSW/QLD cup to be played on curtain raisers which gives more content

We are never going to get exact figures. Like a lot of things in life you are never going to get everything in black and white.

What we have to do is make our judgements based on what is most probable or Occam’s Razor really.

Nevertheless, I agree with you on the women’s game. Get it up to the maximum amount of teams you want.

On the men’s side, have a long term strategy to have a national competition in place (a strategy which should have been in place for the last 10 years) and push the competition up to say 20 teams. Also, next time when we go to the market, if we adding something, add an extra game not just an extra side.

Also, get better negotiators.

Another theory I have is potentially it includes a 19th team in Tasmania

hasn’t been announced so the Tasmanian govt don’t know they have the afl over a barrell and they spend that billion dollars on the two new stadia

which means they would probably be looking at Perth for team 20

I think that’s also the number the nrl will be looking at too over the next ten years

It wouldn’t surprise me if they do this now. I’m not so certain they would have done it, as it does very little for them but now they have so much money, they can do whatever the hell they want

I will give you there is $100m difference, Given what we know about the FTA makeup.

So get $50m worth of content, there is the within 10% of the AFL deal

My concern with that would be trying to get aligned if we are going to have Monday and Thursday.

If I recall correctly, the problem with Monday games was that the teams that played that night were often the cannon fodder the next week

It was one of the reasons giving for axing it. It lead to a lot of teams having 5 day or less turnarounds between games, especially if they'd have to travel long distance to get to and from the previous week's game. Additionally it was also costing clubs money as crowds at those games plummeted, and ultimately the league also as they had to pay the hosting clubs of those games greater financial recompense to try and make up the financial shortfall.

You play Monday night, you can't play the following Thurs or Friday night, Teams were losing on exposure too

In the short term, and possibly in the medium term, that is not going to happen. Playing NRLW games as stand alones means you increase the cost of running that competition quite a bit. For the NRL and the clubs, especially in relation to ground hiring charges and travel, as well as for the broadcasters who then have to supply additional broadcasting equipment and staff.

It is a good aspirational target for now, and would be ideal, but it ignores the financial and logistical issues. You only have to look at the financial issues Netball Australia is facing with the Super Netball competition where (iirc) around 87% of all revenue they earn from the competition goes solely on player salaries.

so you think Telstra are paying $141mill? LOL
You wont see the direct figures as Vlandys has buried ours. At least you will see what cash and contra split is for AFL in annual reports, just have to wait until 2026 to confirm what we all know but you refuse to accept lol.

That is not quite so easy to do when you factor in club requests for certain games, event games like Easter weekend/ANZAC Day/Magic Round, let alone the fact that certain teams wound up getting a whole slew of Monday night games week after week when we had them. It just isn't logistically feasible.

And not necessary. There is no reason we couldn't have 2 or 3 games on Fox at the same time with a viewers choice. Especially in this day and age of streaming when you can get everything on instant replay or start when you like and picture in picture options.

Mathematically, $50m isn’t within 10% but I’m being pedantic.

More importantly where are you getting $100m difference? It would be a lot more than that based on the total difference as well as presuming that Seven is paying $170m and the reported cash figure of at least $550m is correct.

I started following league where there was one game on a Friday night, live ABC match on Saturday afternoon and the rest all kicking off 3pm on Sunday.

Obviously we are not going back to that schedule, but it does highlight currently the lack of Sunday afternoon football. Just two games. And even the 4pm one is played half at night.

When there is an 18th team, the extra game should go to Sunday afternoon. Have a timeslot where two matches are played at the same time.

If Perth comes in, you don't need a new timeslot, because a new area is brought in. You need a balance to appease broadcasters, but to also attract crowds.

Thursday night and Friday 6pm are not great for crowds. And the NRL is already giving enough concessions. Night time finals and GF are other concessions.

And with all of these concessions, the NRL is still getting screwed over at the negotiation table. These concessions need to stop.

In an ideal world we'd have 20 teams (Perth, Adelaide and NZ2 in) and:
Thursday night
Friday night 6pm (NZ game every week), 8pm
Saturday 2 NRLW games then NRL at 3pm, 5pm and 2 games at 7pm simu cast
Sunday 2 games at 4pm simu cast and a 6pm (Perth/Adelaide game each week)
