NZ used to get a lot of 12pm (2pm NZ time) games on Sunday. Even if it’s changed to 1pm KO, (3pm NZ) you could have a 1pm, 2:10pm & 3:50pm kick off without affecting too muchI’d throw in a Sunday afternoon game at 2pm

are 1pm KO’s too early on Sundays?
How’s it affording that on only $12mill extra cash a year from tv? Especially with dolphins to fund. It’s managed it last two years by slashing $25mill plus out of grassroots. What’s it do now grassroots is back to normal?I know people on here like to complain but the Comp has not only budgeted to fund the extra NRLW teams
On top of the existing funding
Give 17 clubs $15m a season
And still put $25m a side, Good times for RL

It’s not just Sydney clubs holding the game backCan you now see why I want a reduction in Sydney teams?
They're the ones pushing for this crap the most because there's not capital nor fan support in Sydney to keep nine NRL clubs in the black.
Broncos have held the game back in Brisbane by not wanting a genuine competitor. Titans tried to hold back the game in Brisbane by opposing expansion. It’s not just Sydney clubs holding the game back
and with their leagues clubs and now the new grounds yes they do have the fan and other support
as I said this deal has lost us the war. There is no way we are holding ground let alone developing new markets with a $400mill a year revenue gap. We’ve had incompetent leaders before but this guy takes the biscuit. He spruces a surplus whilst spending $25mill less on grassroots. This is why we need to get a bigger deal and try to work towards a national competition. The bigger the gap the more they can spend on League heartland whilst we can fight back
How AFL is poking its tongue out at rugby league heartland
The “Barassi Line” – a divider separating the AFL states of Victoria and the south and west of Australia from the rugby codes – has moved significantly north.www.smh.com.au

How many swans players do you think the average Sydney sider can name ?This is why we need to get a bigger deal and try to work towards a national competition. The bigger the gap the more they can spend on League heartland whilst we can’t fight back

How many swans players do you think the average Sydney sider can name ?
can anyone in Sydney name a current giants player
the problem for afl in Sydney is it’s not a game for multicural players or fans
it could spend a trillion dollars and still not be relevant
afl is the sport for the places with little migration other than from England

I wouldn’t say the Swans don’t have any support. Their crowd averages are bigger than all of the League sides in Sydney. So to suggest they haven’t made any traction is like burying your head in the sand.
You have made an interesting point about how Anglo the game is and how they haven’t had much success in western Sydney as a result. It depends a lot on whether those suburbs become more Anglo and gentrified because of increasing house prices.
Furthermore, it is not about where the current game sits, it’s more about what it will be in 20, 30 and 40 years time. They have a long term strategy and are willing to go through with it and we don’t. Eventually the amount of revenue difference and thus the more amount of money they can spend will start to have an effect.
Roy moved to melb ages agoGotta love articles like this. Zero idea of how reality is
Roy moved to melb ages ago
his heart is I. The right place even if his articles aren’t always
Sydney is spot the white person
I had a gf from melb who had never seen much of Sydney across the Anzac bridge
she was shocked there were no white people lmao
if they want to spend hundreds of millions of dollars trying to get pi kids playing afl good luck it’s a lost cause
all they’ve done in Sydney is get into the private schools and get all the guys who could’ve been breakaways or second rows in union (ie tall and good at line outs) playing afl
