My problem isn’t that he talks down fumbleball (that is his prerogative) it’s that his actions don’t meet his words.

He doesn’t take them on for one. He then signs us to a deal which is $200 million less than theirs.

Ergo, I don’t care what he says. Actions speak louder than words.
Yeh his actions do speak louder than words

Not sure this is the right place for it but yeah it’s another reminder how much of a free pass the AFL gets. The sport has racism ingrained in its core and we see this time and time again (despite people labelling it the indigenous game). Meanwhile I regularly hear in my day to day life people lamenting how NRL players are all dickheads and drongos.

It’s very off topic but it shows the power of the media in this regard.

There are too many journos from AFL states in NSW, Never go hard as a result

1. Good on him for expanding but it is an area that is easiest to expand to. Also, he rushed that expansion and didn’t get the financial benefits of that expansion. So yes on the idea but no on the execution

2. Record funding to clubs - Sure but more money to clubs, particularly if revenue hasn’t increased dramatically, means that you’re taking the money from somewhere else? You need to know where before you can praise or criticise that decision

3. Profits - Again how am I obtaining that profit? Am I cutting areas that are important for long term investment and security?

I’ll give him credit for assets and his work in starting the competition earlier than anywhere else. Too bad though that his terrible negotiation skills, knee jerk rule changes and poor communication skills wipe away any credit.

Wb is Typical idiot fan, buys into the trump style rhetoric whilst the game slips ever further behind the afl In revenue.

It’s a deplorable game in every sense. Their pseudo moral authority has hopefully been reduced to rabble. It doesn’t surprise me that they tried to hide it and that their media will swallow whatever bull**** they throw out

Nevertheless, does that mean that we should absolve V’Landys of criticism? No, I don’t believe so.

One thing you could do if you’re V’Landys is get on the phone to News Limited and ask them whether they regret giving all that money to a racist game? Are they still wanting to help them expand their game into NSW/QLD

He might not be perfect but he’s miles ahead of gill

I’m really going to miss Gillion tbh

I hope they actually don’t get a proactive leader now. Someone who looks at many problems they face and tries to fix them

They won’t need a proactive leader. Not saying it is right but they have enough money and such a compliant media down there that they can market, advertise and pay off opinion to make this go away.

The problem is essentially that they are so brainwashed down there that whatever happens they will always defend their game and their behaviours whilst at the same time ridiculing other games for poor behaviour. It is a cult. I wish that this behaviour would reduce the amount of fans they have or cause some significant damage to that game but it probably won’t.

Although I will say that the best thing that should come out of all of this is perhaps it will be harder for them (and perhaps easier for our game) to market to indigenous players.

Anything back to the main topic, a leader is based on a lot of things. Unfortunately, at this point in time, V’Landys has shown himself to be inept at a lot of things.

I`ve really enjoyed having a League boss who points out the shortcomings of the other code because let`s face it, fumbleball largely gets a free ride in the press and there`s a lot of people out there who if told enough times that something is good will believe it. People need to be told how ridiculous it is.
With regard the TV deal do we need to consider that maybe V`lnady`s, like a lot of so-called experts, thought that the world was heading into a major recession following the outbreak of covid. He grabbed a deal that he thought would prop up the code over that period and unfortunately like a lot of people got it very wrong.
V`landy`s has done a lot of good things for N.S.W. Racing, many say now knocking off Vic. Racing`s crown. I think the same passion will still drive him to do the same to fumbleball.

victorian-racing-minister--we-spend-too-much-time-thinking-about-v-landys-20191218

Wagering turnover, attendances and TV viewership plunged during the Victorian spring carnival at a time where there was increased hostility between Victoria and NSW and there were more race dates clashing such as The Everest and the Caulfield Cup and the Golden Eagle and Victoria Derby day.

Expect a lot more of this sort of stuff in the future.

Greenberg used to ring Gillion telling him there was room in nsw and qld for both codes

and we had a decade of lots of talk about expansion then we got nothing

vlandys added a team in the middle of covid and despite most clubs being against expansion

afl is already weak in qld as it is. That extra nrl club there is going to stretch them even further

He will do the same for league as he did nsw racing. The funniest thing was when he told them to move their spring racing so it didn’t clash with the Everest lol

Hopefully this Hawthorn thing leaves a stain on those Lions considering their coach was part of the debacle. Suns are also s*** so hopefully the QLD situation works out well for us.

I was hoping that somebody from the Swans was involved in this s***

End of day his decisions have cost the nrl hundreds of millions of $’s. Any good he had done is vastly overshadowed by that and always will be.

That’s the thing. Unless he somehow miraculously fixes that then yeah that is his legacy.

Hopefully this racism thing damages fumbleball though

I’ve kept out the discussion as it’s nothing to do with tv deals, but yeh they’ll be pretty glad they got the deal before this broke!

only way Vlandys digs himself out of this hole is to extend with fox and get more money, but that just locks us in to a lower deal for longer. I can’t see any win in our current situation. We’d realistically need $100mill extra a year out of fox for it to be anything like. Anyone see that happening?

It is also the timing, expansion doesn't happen without TV locked in. There was no deal for 2023 so it was needed fairly urgent

If $600m+ does infact turn out to be the annual revenue next season, Then hardly can cry poor

And once again where do you see that extra revenue coming from? Without last years second origin revenue we are at around $550mill. revenue at moment. Tv increase is around $10-15mill cash.

we’ve been waiting 12 years for expansion, there was no great need to rush it, especially seeing tv didn’t pay anything for it.

Why not go for a 2 year extension to see what happened with covid instead of negotiating at a point in time when the world was in turmoil? Why rush a deal with fox and then sit and wait over 12 months before doing a deal, with nine? we had 3 years on the current deal still to run when he gave fox the extension.

Locking us in to a 8 year deal for reduced funding for 2 years and zero increase for a further 5 years was either incompetent or corrupt, it’s hard to know which.
