2023-2028 next tv deal discussion

They've never just announced cash amounts before.

Thats because whatever the figure is, its nowhere near the AFLs deal for 2023-2024, let alone the parts of the deal for 2025-2027 (ending 2031).

The fact is the language from PVL says both he got all the money there was, but also that he was protecting the broadcasters from themselves by not alllowing them to pay too much - which he says is good for the industry as a whole.

There was nothing about Internationals in the press release
The NRLW planned to expand after that was announced too

There is no doubt more not included with the deal

it doesnt count for you. Unfortunately in the real world, it actrually does where its parts of the actual rights deal. Also the additional AFL radio rights that arent included in this, but are in the NRL deal..

And the article itself was written pre announcement.

The discussion is TV rights, Not revenue

How can you compare The ARLC deal with ch9 and pay TV if it is being compared to a total broadcast package?

When it comes to analysing the media rights deal you simply dont get to pick and choose the parts you like because the NRL stopped selling the bits that the AFL does.

NRL - Announced: "more than 400m" pa to 2023-2027 inclusive. stopped selling Digital and web rights in 2017. Current deal includes Nines radio rights deal as well as tv broadcast. Fox/Kayo deal amount unknown. Includes additional Dolphins funds. Contra amount unknown.

AFL - Announced: 4.5b. 643m per year from 2025-2031 inclusive. deal includes Digital and internet rights, does not include the radio rights deal signed the week after. Fox/Kayo deal amount unknown. Contra unknown. Cash amount stated as more than 4 billion by CEO.

But you be you.

Again though the $593m includes contra for Marvel renovations

You don't even know the deal so how can you say how much was lost? Nor what is included in it
How can you be on this thread so much and still not get what the numbers are? lol

NRL 23-27
$402 mill a year
$130mill Nine
$32mill SKY
$240mill Fox

Approx $25-30mill contra ($15mill Nine + $10-15mill Fox/Sky)

AFL
23/24 $473 mill + $10mill radio = $483mill. $50mill Telstra = $433mill. Of which approx $20mill is contra

25- $643mill + $10mill radio rights of which $60mill is mentioned as Telstra
Cash amount for total deal has been stated as being 'over' $571mill a year. TV and radio cash is probably around $550mil - 560mil a year.

Roy Masters has it at that but also $450m which if the cash is $400m could be correct, No one is disputing a difference. Just how much the difference is, Which doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. However if we are discussing if the NRL deal as a dud or not then probably should have correct figures to compare
Roys figures are all over the place in that article lol
Fox didnt pay $300mill lol
NRL isnt getting $450mill lol

Just to summarise for the hard of listening

Tv and Radio rights
NRL
2023-2027 $402mill, Cash approx $370-375mill

AFL 2023-2024 $433mill, Cash approx $413mill
2025-2031 $593mill, Cash approx $550-560mill

Tv and Radio right cash revenue difference 2023-2027 approx $616million over the next 5 years.

We could have really done with them tricks up his sleeve!! But hey at least Nine and Fox are going to be ok and not catch a cold. Be happy for that lol.

This distinction only stringently held onto this time. Didnt matter when Telstra rights were included in both deals for more than 15 years though....lol

I can't talk for 15 years ago but people ( not you ) want the ARLC thrown out on a bad deal in comparison. I know I would like to discuss whether this is true or not, Just frustrating that it isn't possible.

Take it off then however where is the money MMM, SEn pay to broadcast the games?
There's no $ value being given for that deal so hard to say how valuable it was. But ok lets take off the radio value from both deals for parity

Tv ONLY
NRL
2023-2027 $395mill, Cash approx $365-370mill

AFL 2023-2024 $423mill, Cash approx $403mill
2025-2031 $583mill, Cash approx $550mill

Tv cash revenue difference 2023-2027 approx $550million over the next 5 years or an avg of $110mill a year.

Still doesn't look great does it?

That last article with Vlandys states nrl cash at $400m, also aligning with what Roy Masters wrote, since we have been assuming nrl value and now have 2 articles stating same numbers we should take that as nrl cash value, still a bad deal but slightly better than the $380m cash we thought it was( I think the extra $20m is the dolphin money)

Depends what is included, If it counts internationals, Womens comp then it is but if it can get up to say $450m cash then it is pretty much spot on

There is no way the nrl is announcing a deal as ‘over’ $400 mill if it is actually $425mill a year! It would have been announced as a $2.1billion deal rather than the $2billion that was announced.

we know nine are paying $130 with radio rights, we know sky nz are paying $32mill.

which Vlandys article does he say $400 cash?

There isn’t a qoute from Vlandys in that. There’s a graphic that is a journos estimate based on the figure of over $400 the nrl announced. I’ve never know a tv deal announced just on a cash basis, nor a sports org talk down a tv deal total lol

would be nice if pistol Pete would give us some transparency like Gil has, at least he’s told us $4bill is cash.

you don’t think whatever internationals nrl comes up with and the expanded nrlw were already in the deal signed?
I’d suggest the only think that’s not in it and has a clause for further discussion is an 18th team/ninth game if that was to happen before 2027.
