They own a stadium for god’s sake. I wish our game owned a stadium in Sydney
You know the afl clubs now are getting money from the government to build their own centre of excellence

but unlike league the afl clubs own them

and the deal to keep the grand final in Melbourne involved the state government spending over 120 million on a privately owned stadium rather than the mcg

even with all these leg ups their finances are stretched

I’m embarrassed by the vitriol some of the RL community on here have for AwFuL. I know that sounds hypocritical as I say “AwFuL” and “fumbleball”, but I do that because I find it funny.

There are people on here who hate AwFuL so much they let it cloud their judgement.

They got it On a sweetheart deal they didn’t pay a billion for it did they

No they didnt. This is about what I expect from someone who doesnt understand the terms of the deal the AFL signed in 1997 for Docklands.

Docklands was a BOOT project - Build. Own. Operate. Transfer. The AFL bought the land outright. the AFL then literally had a rent to own agreement for the stadium itself - which is why rent was so high there for years. In 2025 under the deal, the AFL would get the stadium for $30.

The stadiums owners were being reportedly trying to sell to the League from 2015, and the League ended up basically buying the stadium for the remaining debt the owners had in November 2016..

see if afl didn’t waste that 2 billion they wouldn’t have had to take a loan out during covid … and afl clubs wouldn’t be swimming in a sea of debt

Most AFL clubs arent swimming in debt at all.

imagine spending over a billion dollars on your sport and be ranked last in terms of participation in western Sydney

something isn’t working

Yes because Western Sydney is the whole damn country. the AFL runs a national sport. Not just a pocket in Sydney.

Yeh like I said a sweetheart deal

last time I looked there was tens of millions of bank loans and loans guaranteed by afl house

and as I said your wasting that 2 billion dollars on people who don’t care

As a typical fumbler you show your lack of knowledge. Western Sydney alone is almost ten percent of the total population of Australia

and is growing massively

and afl ranks last lol

The NSW NRL clubs are almost ALL getting centres of excellence courtesy of the NSW Government.

and the deal to keep the grand final in Melbourne involved the state government spending over 120 million on a privately owned stadium rather than the mcg

Deal is again a little more nuanced. Yes the stadium is privately owned, but the Government gained the right to use the stadium for major events for the next 30 years, and the AFL has to let other sports use it. Essentially gained the Gov a third major stadium in the CBD at no cost. But then the NRL is getting comparable amounts to hold the Grand Final in NSW...to just keep for themselves so i dont really see a difference.

even with all these leg ups their finances are stretched

No they arent,.

The Victorian state govt does everything it can to support its local football code

the nsw government retains ownership of the centre of excellence they are community assets

I’ve literally seen all the afl clubs showing the state government grants as revenue lmao

Theres a hell of a lot more to the league than Western Sydney and Gold Coast.

As a typical fumbler you show your lack of knowledge. Western Sydney alone is almost ten percent of the total population of Australia

Which isnt really relevant and just leaves the 90% that is the entire rest of the country, Point stands.

Nah

afl is hardly any more national than Rugby leagie just by having teams in one more capital city than rugby league

indeed if we include Auckland they both have the same number of capital cities lol

God forbid.

the nsw government retains ownership of the centre of excellence they are community assets

Most Victorian AFL clubs lease their facilities from local councils (Kardinia Park, Princes Park, Moorabin, Whitten Oval, Punt Road, Windy Hill, Victoria Park, Arden Street) and every club claims they are used by the community.

Id bet the NRL ones are the same, where they arent outright owned by the club.

bludgers

I believe they have to under accounting standards.

On his watch the AFL generated 2 BILLION more in revenue than the NRL so I dont really think he cares as much as you do.

the NRl announced a total figure - the NZ component absolutely has contra in it as reported by the Telgraph. Nines component has contra. Safe to say Fox will as well.

Yet the NRL themselves say they report in cash, The predicted revenue has gone up enough to back up those comments.

$400m add 20% of whatever is still 'Over' $400m that the actual announcement said

And yet the NRL dont just report in cash. And they do report Contra. Its almost like people dont read the reports.
