You are totally ignoring that the bid by ch9 and ch10 drove up the price significantly that 7/fox ended up paying. You think 7/fox volunteer that massive 40% cost increase with no open market competition??

We don’t know what cash and contra components were. The tv deal they accepted was around $570mill cash and contra so only $30mill less than ch10/paramount, and we dont know cash split from the offers. What we do know is 7/fox are not upping their payment from $416 to $570 without competition!!

He forgets that figure includes the 1st 4 years of the next TV deal. So it is an apples v oranges comparison until the next NRL deal is done.

The 2 years before that deal kicks in NRL is in front.
If NRL can beat the last 4 too

Expanded particularly the NRLW that makes no money then the TV deal was a success and the right call to go early.

It really is still a wait and see for the current deal

The AFL deal is $640mill total, I cant see Telstra paying more than $70mill cash and kind for what they are getting can you?
So that leaves $570mill cash and contra for tv alone.
They announced cash value as $571mill a year for tv and telstra.

NRL got $400mill inc $5mill of radio rights. We know from last years financial report $34mill is contra.

The current gap is huge whichever way you try and spin it.

For NRl to get the biggest tv deal possible in 2028 it will need to land a total deal of around $590mill cash and contra with around $550mill cash a year avg. Not impossible but will need some serious bidders to achieve that. Fox and 9 certainly arent ponying it up out of the goodness of their hearts!

Telstras input hasnt been disclosed, but the current deal was only 50m through to the end of 2025. I doubt it tripled.
