Why should Covid necessarily mean a drop in money? More people are staying at home watching TV and streaming services are absolutely booming. If our ratings are going up and we’re adding extra content we should be hoping for a bigger deal IMO.yea
dunno where you've been lately but we've had a global pandemic haha
its affected things a little bit amongst down grading the value of media rights deals for not just us , but everyone including your beloved fumbelball.
To get our deal back to where it was pre covid even with another team is a fair result, if we can increase it , it will be a very good result.

It all depends on who we can get to bid.
What? 1.2million supporters but only 24k members? This data is so flawed lolStrange that Souths and GC have lost support this year
It shouldn’t; sky nz have just paid more for nrl, afl claim they are getting more from fta, epl just extended for equal value, nfl this year DOUBLED its tv deals, NBA is aiming to TRIPLE its tv rights this year, French union tv deal up 17%,Why should Covid necessarily mean a drop in money? reality is covid has had little to no impact on value of most sports rights around the world
haha
its not a drop
we've already had our rights down graded from 345 mill a year in 2019 to 300 million a year after we re negotiated when covid stopped our season in march 2020
The AFL suffered the same fate having their rights reduced.
getting it back up to 345 million is an increase from where we are today.
so essentiallyThe AFL also had their rights lifted for the 2 year extension from the initial pre covid 418m a year to 473m a year in 2023-24. According to their Annual Report they had a 45m drop in media revenues for 2020 (2021 not known until March next year)
The NRL has already done their Fox and SkyNZ extensions through to 2027 - amounts not revealed - and waiting on Nine or other FTA. The NRL for the first time since 2011 opting not to separately account for broadcast revenue in its annual report last year.
so essentially
exactly what I said lol

The above is pure unadulterated Shite. You know you got them on the run when 'the dill' fantasizes deals and amounts that don't bear up to any scrutiny. Go back a few posts before where we destroyed the $473 per year claptrap. Epecially because Telstra isn't kicking in the 50m yearly payment and Seven is on the hook at telling the market its paying 150m a year. So that leaves Foxtel on 323m yearly ( I don't think so)

Foxtel has extended broadcast rights with the AFL for two years to cover the 2023 and 2024 seasons, in a deal worth 20 per cent more to the AFL than its current deal with the News Corp majority-owned broadcaster.
Telstra, which is the other major shareholder in Foxtel, also extended its direct rights with the AFL for the same period, while announcing it would become Marvel Stadium's official technology partner, turning the Melbourne ground into a showcase for its 5G technology.
The AFL said the deals with Foxtel, Telstra and Seven were together worth $946 million over the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Seven is paying just under $300 million of that figure.
So by your own figures (which again does not make sense) you have Fox ( very dubious) paying "over the 300m mark". Quote- Are you listening to yourself, when Foxtel payed slightly under 200m in the old deal and in a situation in 2020 season , whereby Foxtel got substantial reductions on the old contract and then almost immediately negotiated ( from pressure from the AFL, so the AFL would be in a weaker position ) a increase AFL deal up from 200m to 300m. Kayo been running in the old deal that started in 2018 so Foxtel had no reason to pay over for streaming rights as their were included in the old deal.Yes I did notice your "destruction".
yes Im sure Gill is on the run because of your..um...destruction of his announcement. You've made a fair number of assumptions, trotted them out like its reality, when you have nothing to support that argument other than you dont think its true.,
You not believing a press release from the AFL doesnt make it any less likely because theres nothing official in accounts that wont divulge the exact increases until 2023 and 2024.
Foxtel, Telstra extend AFL rights deal
Foxtel and Telstra have extended their broadcast rights deal with the AFL for two years to cover the 2023 and 2024 seasons.www.afr.com
For 2017-2022
Foxtel was scheduled to pay 1.3b over 6 years at 216m a year (including 6m contra) (216m per year)
Seven was scheduled to pay 840m a year over 6 years through to 2022. (140m per year + 10m contra)
Telstra was scheduled to pay 300m a year of 6 years through to 2022, (50m per year)
Total was 417 per year including 16m in contra.
The reality is it was a little lower, but not off by much when contra is accounted for - which the AFL does separately.
The 2023-24 extension includes
- 2011 - $167.250m[1]
- 2012 - $225.577m[2]
- 2013 - $240.674m[3]
- 2014 - $248.396m[4]
- 2015 - $256.602m[5]
- 2016 - $264.154m[6]
- 2017 - $381.323m[7]
- 2018 - $391.323m[8]
- 2019 - $397.439m[9]
- 2020 - $352.670m[10]
Foxtel up to 252m (with 20% increase)
Seven 150m a year
Contra presumed at about 20m a year
Every artiicle ive seen says Telstra are still paying the AFL, - Telstra retains replay, highlight and on-demand rights for games and becomes Marvel Stadium’s official technology partner. So with no live rights, that amount is probably reduced some.
The extensiion was reported as being 25% more than the covid reduced amount, and slightly more than the original deal,
IF Telstra arent paying for rights, its logical that Fox took up those rights - theres no way they got exclusive for free when the AFL already had a deal in place. If they did, that could put Fox over the 300m mark for rights.
As for Tesltra paying 50m cash to the Afl this would have been the perfect time to announce this- but they didn't so Foxtel over 300m looks a forgone hope. Telstra paying 50m- why , had a look at the Telstra/AFL streaming App, I don't think so, because IT AIN'T THEIR. That explains why no 50m deal in 2023-2024.
Telstra bring 5G to AFL with plans to make Marvel Stadium among the most advanced stadiums in the world
Telstra has today renewed its existing sponsorship arrangements with the AFL as well as extending it to include an enhanced focus on making Marvel Stadium one of the most connected sporting grounds in the world and a testing bed for Telstra 5G innovation.www.telstra.com.au
there are enormous " common sense " holes between figures gill the dill is quoting & the information coming out of foxtel itself & they don't marry up at all.Quote from the age: the AFL deal with Foxtel, the Dill and Foxtel spokesman, explains"AFL extends Foxtel and Telstra broadcast deal by two years
The extension, including the recent Seven Network agreement, will be worth $946 million, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said.www.theage.com.au
"This extension with Foxtel and Telstra, along with the extension we signed with the Seven Network earlier this year, ensures that we are able to not only rebuild our game but take it to more and more people," McLachlan said.
The deal represents a 25 per cent increase on the revised rights agreement the AFL struck with Foxtel because of the pandemic, but is only slightly higher than the original deal.
"The extension of the rights deal resets the discounts associated with COVID and is financially little changed from the original 2017-22 agreement," a Foxtel spokesman said.
So a slight increase on the original deal (without covid reductions) so properly a little over 200m per year. In regdards to 'exclusive telstra live streaming games' ( they don't now) how is ( online streaming ) exclusive to Foxtel, whereby Seven Plus streams over internet half the premiership weekly. The 946m is codswallop!
Seven plus streams to limited smart tvs, not a general stream like 9now is for league.Quote from the age: the AFL deal with Foxtel, the Dill and Foxtel spokesman, explains"AFL extends Foxtel and Telstra broadcast deal by two years
