Foxtel chief executive Patrick Delany has indicated the pay TV provider will attempt to outmuscle rival media companies in the battle for sports rights, after parent company News Corp delivered a record full-year profit.
News Corp reported a $US760 million ($1.1 billion) profit in fiscal 2022, almost double the previous year, on the back of $US10.4 billion in revenue. Foxtel, which is 65 per cent owned by News, said nearly one quarter of its total revenue for the financial year was driven by its streaming services: Binge, Kayo Sports and Flash.

At the end of the Story was a comment on cost control and in another paper it gave the name of the woman who is the Chief Financial officer CFO who also stated we must control costs- so I don't see Foxtel paying overs for the AFL.
"News Corp’s chief financial officer, Susan Panuccio, said the company would continue to manage costs amid ongoing supply chain and inflationary pressures."

WOW The AFL does not have the gonads and are going down the Banker Smith road? In the press release for the AFL written by Nial he says Foxtel wants to go to 3 games nationally including Super Saturday and Home state broadcasts talk to Seven. Whats to talk about , he seems to be saying ( Foxtel) pay Seven for the 'home market' and 3 games - So the AFL will miss out? What a dumb negotiating strategy . It's all to hard for the AFL to arrange the deal to suit the biggest payer. Looks like their will be a loss of income with Seven getting a cut of the action.

In effect, this means Foxtel would have to strike a deal with Seven. There has been tension in the relationship between Foxtel and Seven over exclusivity in certain markets and other differences. End of Quote

Well Nial goes on about the $473m per year contract , which starts in about 6 mths form now. Only once did CEO Warrbutton say we signed a extended contract, on 'improved terms' The average was $146m over the five years of the contract. I find it hard to believe that Seven is paying extremely over the $146m, ( improved terms) which has been advanced by Mr Red only... So the figures HAVE NEVER ADDED UP- It's always short.

I said the negotiations are going to have a poison pill- who is going to swallow? The loser will pay less- Seven can't really go up from the Average $146 and if they to lose home markets, Saturday broadcasting why would they pay more in fact they will pay less- Foxtel who said they paying little more than the old contract, ( roughly $230m) will only go up if they get these 'conditions which are Seven's according the AFL. Maybe the AFL should negotiate with Teltsta ( we haven't herd from them in the negotiations ) what with their ( 50m) contract running out in a few months.

$146mill avg, we've been through this! Discounts in 20-22, more in 23&24 (same for Fox)
Telstra have extended for 23&24 on same terms as has been quoted in media releases
Total is $473mill a year as confirmed by AFL and media

Now what 25- looks like is anyone's guess at this stage. Allegedly Ch10 have said they haven't put in a low ball offer but haven't put one in at $600mill either. If there offer is around the $473-500 then it will force Seven and Fox to up to match or at least get close. For 10 to get the rights it will cost them at least $50mill a year more than what 7/Fox are offering imo for AFL to take the risk on a new partner and to lose the large Fox audience reach.

The NRL bar for them to break is set at:
FTA $115mill cash +$15mill contra
PTV/Streaming $240mill (cash/contra split not known yet)

Seven losing a lot of content there and afl losing a lot of fta access

fox clearly have seen the limitations of afl as a tv sport and are now demanding value

NRL buys a $25mill hotel, AFL buys a $1/2bill stadium. Probably sums up the two sports.

lol Vlandys announces a $42.8mill surplus after slashing grassroots and community development of $43.4mill. Outstanding.

Club grants and player payments NRL $285mill AFL $360mill.

but apart form that you have a point lol.

We saw what happened when Fox ditched the union, it effectively became dead to them in the Murdoch papers, barely a mention in eight pages of sport. Will fumbleball risk this sort of retribution by cutting out Foxtel ? It`d be a brave organisation that does so.
At least the union still has Ch 9 and their papers in their corner, who would fumbleball have ?
Not having a decent spread in the daily tabloids is a quick way to start to lose relevance in the public`s eyes.

Its highly unlikely, unless the Paramount offer is so big they cant say no. It doesn't look like it will be (would need to be well over Fox/Ch7 probably $50-100 mill a year over) so its highly likely they'll stick with the tried and tested but the competition will keep the number up.

newspapers are dying, online will post stories on whatever gets them clicks just as newspapers will print on whatever the local public want to read. they wont care who has the rights. Ch9 ran an AFL show year for decades!

Fox and seven aren’t losing the afl

they are trying to bluff them into paying more by lieing about how much ten offered

You know what the kicker is? Foxtel and Seven know what they are paying Now and most importantly what they are paying for 2023-2024. Since the AFL did not name the amount both these Organizations are paying in the extended contract, by deductive reasoning THEY KNOW THE AFL ARE LYING regarding the $473 per year. Wonder how that goes in negotiations. Usually negotiations rely on full faith and trust. Not much of those qualities around here. So the AFL lies have finally caught up with them. The $600m Paramount bullshit is the cherry on top. Notice how they say what the PAramount amount was, it never made sence, because a expert for Paramount would have noticed this bull/s number $946m for two years..... or $473 for one year.

Bottom Line: Society doesn't like to be reminded of the world it lives in so it masks itself with false imagery of the finer things
