Substitute NRL for Australian Professional Leagues and NRL and NRLW for A-League and W-League.

"In a further sign of the company’s commitment to growing the sport, Ten’s owners ViacomCBS have bought a minor share in the Australian Professional Leagues.

"The other five A-League games each round will be behind a paywall on Paramount+, which is aiming to use football as the cornerstone of its launch in Australia, where it will be available for $8.99 per month from August 11."

If nrl went to paramount or stan it would be different than soccer or union in that a huge number of subscribers would follow overnight (500k to 1 million)

I personally like Fox coverage and have none. If Stan got all the rights I will be devastated

Rupert Murdoch wanted to buy 10 network for years, failed on his first attempt.

Pipped at the line by Paramount+ .

If his Son is successful this time around it is great news for the NRL next broadcasts rights deal.

That is your competitive tension in the next round of negotiations.

If Lachlan buys Network 10 then you can almost Guarantee a large deal for the NRL.

Be interesting to know how many subscribers have fox and kayo primarily for nrl. Has there ever been any numbers released? It’s always hard to know many viewers of a game are unique viewers and how many are repeat viewers, how many are rusted on and how many are casual.

The money will be in competition for streaming rights, not for fta. Arguably, and given fox’s behaviour towards the game historically, them owning a fta company as well could be a real issue If there’s no competition for streaming.

Nrl games rate around 600k across fox and kayo so a million seems like a reasonable assumption

None of what you said made any sense.

Try and not be a negative Nancy all the time.
I’m not sure why, with fox owning a fta channel they could in theory, with no competition, offer a package deal that delivered no fta pay increase for nrl With a take it or leave it ultimatum for the whole thing. With no one else challenging for streaming/ptv rights what would the nrl do?

why do you think fox owning ch10 would lead to more money for the nrl?

What is the current gap. NRL is $400m cash as per the increase in the financials
How true we explained with links that the NRL get over $400m pa CASH.

Well last year, the only year with have with budget statements , supposedly by Perth Red this gap is huge. Lets look at facts, the AFL stated that Media and AFL media revenue was $444m for 2023...... Ours was somewhat under a heading called Licencing which encomapssed Merch Gambling fes, this figure was $485m pa for 2023. I would say $80to $84m m pa was such fees, not media Tv etc , which left Media at over $400m pa cash that the CEO of the NRL explicitly said. ( and going up with inflation) , however how you look at it was over $400 million pa cash. Elsewhere they account for income from websites adverting , so that's not under licensing. The figure was Several million and elsewhere they account for Contra as a expense at $34m on page 77 of the NRL budget for 2023.

But somewhat strangely under the Revenue section of th AFL the AFL have listed "Media and AFL media" at $444 million, so a difference of say $40-$44 million, to the NRL of over $400m pa cash under 10% to the NRL.
But what is AFL Media and if we extract this amount maybe the NRL come out on top. I would say AFL media get the Telsra $50 million, which if you minus this amount the NRL comes out on top and this year ( now) ON TOP
$405m pa NRL
$$444- telstra $50 m equals $396m pa for AFL
From Wiki...
Established in 2012, AFL Media provides content to AFL.com.au and the AFL Live mobile app, and formerly published the AFL Record from 2012 to 2018. Although Telstra currently holds the digital media broadcasting rights for AFL games, there is an agreement in place that allows AFL.com.au to host video content from Telstra Media.[1] Telstra also receives the advertising revenue from the website.[2] Although AFL Media is located in the same building as the AFL's headquarters in Docklands, Victoria, it employs an independent editorial and journalist team to report on the league and produce content on its various mediums.[2]

Who employs this large staff... the AFL so that's a 'cost' , they say interdependent BUT that they don't share in the revenue from adverting which goes to the Telstra.. So their is a established relationship between Telstra and AFL media- therefor that's where the $50 m pa Revenue from Telstra is accounted for.

This would mean this the proper place to Account for the Telstra media $50m pa fee that it pays to the AFL from Telstra Media. So as above the $444 m Pa the AFL gets in it's Media and AFL media includes the Telstra amount of $$50m pa. SO this really means AFL gets only $396 pa for it's TV and PayTV.

So again we PROVE that the NRL are in front or equal if you take off couple of million for Radio licensing fees.
Again we winning , when we sign our next deal we aim to clearly overtake the AFL.
And this thread is only media players like TV. So clearly we win ...

pure guess work lol

What we know in the NRL line is there at least $50mill gambling (2022 figure), $10mill radio, over $12mill merch (2019 figure) and over $24mill digital (2019 figure).

AFL's telstra deal is cash and contra/inkind not $50mill cash.

There was a $90m jump in that category which goes with the $400m cash which AFR has said was the case all along

If you could , a link to that story would be great, i have a pay wall jumper for the AFR.. no probelm if can't... Like I said that AFL figure included Telstra amount so media only figure for the AFL would be $396 apox. While we are on over $400 cash, win good!

At best there is $486 minus $96mill. ie $390mill tv cash.
And thats if merch and digital revenue hasnt gone up in 5 years and gambling revenue was same as 2022.

Yeah the AFR articles are paywalled now.

This from Roy Masters. The figures could fit in the annual report figures.

$36m contra. $493m in the pool of funds of TV, Licencing etc.

$400m of that from TV leaves $93m for the other stuff.

Hes wrong as usual on every point lol,
the international rights didnt double. They went from $20mill to $32.4mill.
the licensing revenue line for 2023 was $485,985,000. not $493mill
The non tv components were at least $96 mill and probably more unless the NRL has lost revenue in last 5 years in those other areas.
contra was $34.1mill.

When the deal starts there will be a reference point

BUT

AFL and NRL are 1 and 2.

AFL should always get a bit more due to content reasons. 5-10% difference or so is reasonable.

Since this current deal started NRL is in front.

AFL will be soon, just how far is the question.

That deal of there is locked in. NRL still has another deal to add to current one. Where that sits will decide if NRL made an error going early
