Fair enough, looks like a bit of license taken by the reporter on that one but even around the 5000 mark is pretty impressive and would have ensured the girls had a bit of atmosphere for their game.
Ironic I suppose, in this case the small suburban ground probably was an advantage.
On the numbers overall, for a comp so early in its` evolution they are pretty solid.
yea,
ofc when they're the undercard to an NRL game we will never know how many would have attended stand alone games

Numbers reported for three of the NRLW games last weekend:

10,634 turned up early at the Sharks/Raiders game to watch the women`s game.
8,109 at the Knights v. Dragons game at McDonald`s Jones stadium.
7.926 attended the Cowboys v. Titans game at the Gold Coast.

Pretty impressive I thought.
Crowds for the two standalone games:

Broncos v Roosters - 2,832
Eels v Wests Tigers - 2,095

week 1 finals last year should have been

Fri Accor Penrith V Parra ... 30K ( heaps of parra fans )
Sat AAMI Melb V Canb 20K as it was
Sat Allianz Sharks V Cowboys 20K
Sun Allianz Souths V Roosters 40K as it was

even better with some rescheduling could have seen the penrith game at Accor on either Sat or Sun to make it easier for Panthers fans to get there rather then Friday ,
crowd would have been 40K , heavily assisted by Parra as long as the Sharks game remained on the weekend as well to assist their fans getting to Moore park
They like to reward teams for playing well through the year, not for being closer to the big venues.

their reward for playing well ............ is playing finals & if they play at a shithole in Sydney
they'll play that final elsewhere in Sydney

Should be 20K minimum capacity for any final. All the one-team cities are over that anyway so it’s not like anyone is going to be forced to play a week one final out of their city or state.

I was thinking 5,000 would be a big crowd for a stand alone NRLW game
The Eels v Wests Tigers match at Commbank was a missed opportunity. Saw nothing about it, despite living less than 10 minutes away from the venue and getting most of the Eel's comms. Compare this to any Men's match, there's stuff in the local papers, on just about every telegraph pole, email comms, digital ads, etc.

Have seen more promoting the double header at Belmore this weekend, which is not really a convenient location for any of the four teams participating (Wests Tigers, Sharks, Cowboys, Newcastle)

It’s only really Manly, Tigers & Sharks. Tigers may opt for Accor or Commbank anyway. Even if it was 15k, 17-20k at Brookie or Leichhardt would be OK, not great. Shark Park is the only one taking the piss at 12k, 2/3 the size of the 2nd smallest home ground.

The good news is that this will be the worst crowd at the Gabba for us as the Parra game has already out sold this one.

I think 25k, if that is the case it's only cost us 7-8k IMO, but will see what they announce.

1990 is a deceptive pick for the types of crowds the Swans were drawing when they first moved to Sydney as it was the lowest average crowd for the club in their entire history.

In 1982, when the club first moved to Sydney, it averaged 15,993. The Swans drew 25,847 in in 1986 and 21,987 in 1987 respectively before the decline into the early 90s. In fact during the window between 1982 - 1989, the club averaged 15,389.
I've spoken to a couple of people who attended Swans games in the early 90s and they used to laugh every time the crowd was announced. Some games there were barely 3,000 there.

It’s a Thursday night not at the broncos home ground with the Matilda’s game on down the road. It’s a good crowd.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Storm get at the 2nd marvel game. They’ve done the marvel 2 game $35 membership and now the ‘Rugby double pass’ promotion so hopefully should crack 20k again. Might be a chance of biggest crowd of the round.
