The Game 2023 Crowd Watch

They spent the 90s getting some of the biggest crowds in Sydney and attracting sponsors like Citibank. All while people like my family were getting gentrified out of the area. (Not me, I'm never leaving lol) To then try and drag themselves into comparatively low wealth area after building such a good fanbase being based in the Lower North Shore was ill-advised. (I wanna stress on the comparatively. It's not that the CC is poor it's just that they can't suck remora like on business districts like North Sydney, Chatswood and Macquarie Park from there)
During the 90s they were also gaining a lot if traction out in the North West of Sydney as well.

Areas such as Thornleigh, Pennant Hills, Cherrybrook, Beecroft, Dural were both Norths territories from a juniors perspective and supporter base and unlike the North Shore, people weren't leaving those areas, they were moving into them. (It was also rather affluent markets as well relatively speaking, but RL was the more popular code).

Even the likes of the Hills District had some decent support for the Bears off the back of the Eels doing nothing in the mid-90s whilst the Bears were regularly in the Finals.

They had a big enough catchment area in Sydney and were well placed to take it before deciding to move further north.

Instead the Bears forfeited that and then annoyed the Central Coast locals by killing off the Townies.

Here is how many tickets the Broncos are holding from ticketek for their 1 game membership against Melbourne. They really need to market the hell out of these or just whack them on ticketek. If I were the Broncos ticketing people I would throw 639, 603 and 604 online tonight.

638 was sold in the general ticketek sale. If they sell these out we will see anywhere from 41-45k. There is a heap of buzz for this, so if the corporates come in addition to these being sold we could actually see 45-47k.

Liked it before I realised it was the sharks and their Lego stadium.
A bit harsh on Lego there. Even Lego has more impressive Stadiums than Shark Park

Hope we can beat the Swans' 41k today and have the biggest crowd in OUR CITY this year!!!
Really 41k? I'm gobsmacked, what do people see in this sport. A friend of mine went with his missus not long ago sitting in a box and all you can eat n drink, and he did not even watch a minute of the game, he was watching the NRL instead on TV and stuffing his face.

Yeah, I still think the Knights fans have us covered.

Both good.. but when was the last time the Knights had 10% of Newcastle’s population show up for a Thursday night game against a team from 2000+km away?

And Penrith fans call bs!
When you average 90% capacity for a full season then you might be nearly up there!

In 2005, Newcastle got the wooden spoon. They still averaged 18,469 per game. A couple of years earlier in 2003, Penrith won the comp. The Panthers averaged attendance was 17771 in the regular season.

So Newcastle came last in 2005, but still got more through the gate compared to Penrith's premiership winning year in 2003.

Now it's no disrespect intended towards Penrith, but it does highlight Newcastle's resilient parochialism.
