The Game 2023 Crowd Watch

True, but the sharks had a perfect opportunity to take 2-3 potential big drawing games to the SFS this year and haven't done so.

They are only limiting themselves and it can't be more profitable to have 11 000 in shark park with most of the corporate boxes closed than it would be with 20 000 at the SFS.

Small time thinking.
In our defence the Sharks are playing at a reduced capacity and have been for a couple of seasons.

Last year 6 Sydney clubs had crowd averages below Gold Coast. Sydney’s population divided by 9 teams is still roughly the same as the population of the Gold Coast.

Yesterday 2% of GC population turned up.
Did any of those 6 Host Magic Round games?

CBUS has opened practically the full stadium for the game against the broncos this week. Expecting more than 20,000, could get close to a sell out, depending on if Titan flexi members opt in for this game.

Yeah. Can’t argue with that.

When you look on that crowds website.

Only Shark Park was the only regular one less than Robina but was at 100% capacity a few times.

Dragons too but is split between a few grounds

I’m not singling out any clubs but even if the Sharks had 17-18k capacity last year they still probably wouldn’t have gone above the Titans.

Saying the Gold Coast are the worst crowds in the comp after one disappointing crowd is sensationalist. A home game against Broncos will pump it back up this week and with a win there they could be top 4 which can only help. I still think if the Titans ever actually have a run of success they’d be back to the top 2-4 crowds regularly.

I may be imagining it but I seem to remember Gold Coast having disappointing Sunday crowds before. Maybe night games pull better crowds for them? Especially when it’s still pretty hot and half the stadium in in full sun light.

I think Shewi’s point above is legitimate though. We could take games against the dragons snd South’s and others to the SFS to maximise our crowds.

I dont disagree but I think it’s legitimate to think yesterday could have been better as the dragons have always drawn quite well up there. Personally I’ve always hoped the titans have a good year. Tying up the south East of Queensland with two (now three) strong clubs has always appealed.

I agree mate. Even though I expected around 12,000, we definitely could have and should have had more. A lot of members in my section weren't there due to going away for easter, so that took a few hundred away. Plus, tickets for a game like Titans vs Dragons should not be going for $70 an adult for halfway line tickets. Either way, atmosphere was pumping in the final few minutes in my opinion.

1 out of every 50 people attending is bad? Broncos crowds are below par then.

4 of those 6 hosted on Magic weekend. They all also benefited from having 8 other teams’ fans all in the same city to pad out their games a bit more too.

Yeah it was a good game and deserved a better roll up. Next week will be a beauty.

Absolutely it will be. Premium hospitality has sold out again and corporate boxes are at limited availability. If members show up, the crowd could push towards 25,000. Obviously give or take people who can't make it after buying tickets, but to see the stadium fully available on Ticketek is a good indication that we could see a bumper crowd at CBUS on Saturday.

Looking at the draw the Dolphins and Titans should have the two biggest crowds next week. Nice.

It would have been a few years since these 2 played both in the top 8 you’d think. Hopefully it can push 25k plus, a titans win could be huge for their next few home games as well.

We are seeing with the Dolphins that there were RL fans in Brisbane who for whatever reason weren't attending games.

GC is the same, Maybe pricing is wrong, Timeslots etc. There is no reason in theory they can't get a Newcastle or Cowboys level of support.

ATM they are underperforming in that area

The GC are fine. They have a transient expat population - many live there just over the summer and then disappear. It's a holiday destination, and most Queenslanders avoid the place like the plague, and if they happen to be there for something, they sure as hell don't want to go out to Robina.

When I lived in Brisbane I didn't go to many Broncos games there. I'd save the travelling games for Melbourne, the Roosters or a cheeky trip to NZ.

The Titans have been a bit of a basket case for some time and are still drawing 12k on a perfect easter Sunday when 90% of the gold coast population are at the beach. I feel they've made enough fans to survive and if they have a few good years we will start to see decent crowds appear.

I'm going to the Raiders vs Dragons game on Sunday - provided it isn't raining, I ain't sitting in the rain to watch two mong clubs. We just get GA area tickets last minute and then go sit in the gold area (hehe) so I'll have a pax on Sunday morning.

Looks to be selling quite poorly and behind the Penrith and Cronulla games at this stage.

The dragons have lost their appeal. They’ve been a basket case for 10 years and frankly the days of them being the best drawing away team where ever they go are gone and likely won’t come back unless things improve.

They had a couple of decent years when they first got it and have basically ranged from dog shit to decent since they’ve been in the comp. This in an area that has had multiple failed teams.

The titans get way too much shit for their crowds especially when you compare it to Sydney. They don’t have the history or success to draw from, of course crowds will be average. They still compare well with smaller Sydney sides and if they hit a patch of form they’ll like average more than most Sydney sides.

That’s as good as you can ask for on a place like the GC.
