The Game 2023 Crowd Watch

Round 3 crowd predictions
Sea Eagles vs Eels 11,000
Knights vs Dolphins 19,000
Roosters vs Rabbitohs 35,000
Titans vs Storm 13,000
Cowboys vs Warriors 16,000
Broncos vs Dragons 32,000
Bulldogs vs Tigers 16,000
Raiders vs Sharks 12,000
TOTAL: 154,000
AVERAGE: 19,250

The Sea Eagles put in a stellar performance in R1, got the R2 bye, play a long-term rival at home this week and the weather looks good. These factors mean Manly could pull more than its usual 4-figure Thursday night crowd at Brookvale.

Similarly, the Knights faithful will likely have enjoyed today's courageous performance and Newcastle always turns out in good numbers even when the home team has struggled in recent years.

The Roosters and Rabbitohs is the first big Sydney club game of the year and ticket sales look like they are progressing pretty well. It may not be a sellout like their last two games at the new Allianz, but anything over 80% capacity is a good result I think. Yours truly will be in the crowd.

Gold Coasters can be hard to predict, and I'm not really sure how the crowd will turnout for the Titans' first home game of the year.

The Cowboys have another late afternoon game which could affect attendances...then again it didn't in R1. I think there might be a bit of a dip though.

The Broncos have had a great start to the season and as the biggest club in the comp, if they continue in this vain, minimum 30k crowds should be on lock and we should be looking at the first 30k club average since the Broncos in 2018.

The Bulldogs at home after a ripper performance against the Storm should result in a good home crowd for what should be another win against the struggling Tigers. The grandstand seats 9k and is already down to single seats only.

Canberra at home for its first home game of the year. A bad start to the year and a less than optimal timeslot mean they may not get a great turnout.

The more I watch this, the more I think the Dragons need to move full time to Wollongong (8 games), with 2 games in the regions and 2 at Kogarah. Dragons fans just don't show up. There's nearly more Titans fans there, and they're one of the smallest clubs in the comp!
I doubt there were more than 500 Titans fans there. A sub 10k crowd though is terrible though. Kogarah games don't draw well also because of the opposition and timeslot. Every year its usually Cowboys, Titans, Warriors, sometimes Roosters, Rabbits, Broncos, Storm, Panthers, Sharks or Knights.
The only away teams that draw decently at Kogarah are the Sharks and probably Bulldogs. I can't remember the last time there was a "blockbuster" Kogarah game outside of a derby. Form plays a part in it too. The Dragons haven't exactly been great to watch over the last decade either.

Dragons have got the Derby in 2 weeks again Sunday at 6.15pm at Kogarah. If the weather is good & they give a good account of themselves against the Broncos this week
They surely can't get under 15K ?

I'd be surprised if it got over 12k. If the Monday was a public holiday it would probably help get a few more off the couch.

Newcastle v The 22k (i reckon plenty neutrals will rock up to see the dolphins first away match)

North Queensland V New Zealand 15k
Brisbane v St George 33k

Tigers did draw 16k at Kogarah in Round 18 2018 and the haven't played there since

Yep kogarah has had bad crowds for almost a decade

at least playing roosters and south’s at allianz they would get at least 20k minimum
It has rained the last 6 games in a row at Kogarah. All against low drawing opposition. They sold out almost every game there in 2018 - the last time they made the finals. If the Dragons fire the crowds will come.

They will never leave the place so just suck it up and get over it.

Your bitching and moaning.

They've left Kogarah several times before and suffered massive backlash every time. There is zero indication they will take home games anywhere else.

Like I said - Several sellouts in 2018. With a consistent team it will happen again.

12k sellouts ?

dragons are obviously a wollongong team now sharks have taken over the area

and even in the glory days they didn’t play most of their games at kogarah

they were playing their club games at the scg

I'd guess that 36-37k tickets have sold for Dolphins v Broncos in two weeks. The Dolphins don't run GA areas, so we could see 50k+ provided restricted view seats are released too.

Will depend on corporates and weather of course, but it is shaping up to be an incredible night for our game.

If the Dolphins defeat the Broncos in a fortnights time there will be an absolute meltdown in Brisbane Rugby League and the greater Rugby League world.

28-31k. Shit all corporates will come on a Saturday. If it's a cracking day and the rock ups are good maybe 31-34k. Unfortunately I'm sure the media there is only talking about the Dolphins game the week after.

It's going to be interesting to see what the Allianz crowd will be this Friday night with the new pricing strategy set by the Roosters.

This is Category 1 adult tickets:

A bit disappointing to see. The ticket prices will be the primary reason the Roosters vs Rabbitohs doesn't sell out...especially with the current cost of living pressures + the weather looks like it won't be an issue.

That said, ticket sales appear to be trending up this week and 35,000 is starting to look like it might be at the lower end of the spectrum if the uptick continues through to game day.

Sydney FC plays Western Sydney Wanderers the next day at Allianz, it'd be nice to see a bit of friendly competition to get the better crowd (the Sydney Derby is also trending to a crowd "well over 30,000").

Thats just what the NRL need if a Sydney FC v WSW gets a bigger crowds then Roosters v Rabbitohs.

The Roosters / Dragons prices for ANZAC Day are also pretty...greedy.

Sure it's ANZAC Day, and that game is consistently the biggest crowd-puller of the year in Sydney, but the Dragons have been sub-par for the better part of a decade, making only two finals series with the last 5 years ago...and despite a good start to the season this year, it would be a brave punter who puts them in with a shot of the top 8 this year.

I guess Allianz 2.0 will be a big factor for Dragons fans who haven't yet had the chance to attend a game. Anything less than a sellout crowd over 40,000 will be a big disappointment.

---

I'm interested to see what sort of crowds attend the Easter weekend games in Sydney this year.

If the Rabbitohs can retain a top 8 place and the Bulldogs continue their upwards trajectory, I can see the Good Friday clash drawing over 35,000 for the first time since 2017.

The Tigers and Eels have had a bad start to the year, and the Eels have a really tough run through to Easter, so at this rate I'm not convinced the Easter Monday clash will draw more than 30,000 (and the game has only done so once since 2017). If the Tigers don't improve throughout the year, they should be stripped of this game and replaced with another Sydney club to face the Eels on Easter Monday.
