The Game 2023 Crowd Watch

There can be more than one party to blame.

Channel 9 wanted the match earlier because they want England v Australia in the Cricket on the primary channel and of course want to protect their precious 6pm news timeslot.

NZRL stuffed up with pricing and promotion. The ends of the ground sold okay, but having the top category at NZD90 (and having no Child/Concession/Family pricing) and having similar for the next two being similar in the current economic climate, in an area like Hamilton, was always going to make it harder.

The fact the NZRL doesn't really have a marketing team would only compound that.
I thought the pacific championship and bowl were organised by the nrl? Why would nzrl be in charge of marketing?

The scheduling of this comp has been awful as has the choice of stadia

the opener should’ve been aus vs nz

aus vs nz playing two weeks in a row was stupid

after the kiwis got thumped the week before it killed sales for the final

selling the stand that doesn’t face the camera was a rookie error from the nzrl

and people saying it should’ve been in Australia nz are entitled to a test at home

mt smart would’ve sold out for this
Are you saying only Auckland cares about rugby league?

Good to see so many nations getting games and meaningful matches in both hemispheres. Now... to the IRL, NRL, RFL... let's lock this in and grow... don't just chuck it out in a few years and start again

The pacific cup is a permanent fixture as vlandys wants more content to get a bumper tv deal

though it looks like being expanded to four teams next year with tonga coming back

Pretty much as part of the last broadcast deal between the NRL, NZRL & Sky, it allowed the NZRL to have first 'rights' to controlling matches on home soil.

It's why there were NZRL (versus NRL) sponsors on the field & referees.

This article quoting Greg Peters today confirms that the NZRL have no desire to hand it over either: https://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/league/...rt-of-nrl-taking-control-of-kiwis-tests-in-nz

1st year of Pacific Cup.

It will build over the next 20 years.

Add in PNG to the NRL along with another NZ team down the track will also help the Cup.

I think its been good considering its the first year.

Some lessons learned over the first iteration of the Cup, things will get better from here.

Need to make sure samoa don’t tour England next year so we get samoa vs tonga

England has had a World Cup and a Tongan tour they can’t expect sides full of nrl players to tour every year

We need England to play matches though. England has also been told they're not invited to Australia / NZ until 2025 either.
